Is Tracy Morgan’s Health Scare Related To Diabetes?

January 24, 2012

Comedian Tracy Morgan, who is living with diabetescollapsed after an awards ceremony at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday and was rushed to a local hospital.

According to reports, the actor fell unconscious and was rushed to nearby Park City Medical Centre, shortly after accepting the Spotlight Initiative award at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards in Park City, Utah.

At the time of initial incident, “sources” said hat Morgan appeared “extremely intoxicated” during his acceptance speech, appearing “out of control, yelling and falling onto the ground.” However, Amy Roberts, a spokeswoman for Park City Medical Center, told reporters that neither drugs or alcohol were found in the comedian’s system.

“From a combination of exhaustion and altitude, Tracy is seeking medical attention,” a rep for the 43-year-old said in a statement released to press. “He is with his fiancée [Megan Wallover] and grateful to the Park City Medical Center for their care. Any reports of Tracy consuming alcohol are 100 per cent false.”

The photographer asked Tracy Morgan just before he boarded the plane last night if diabetes or alcohol played a part in his 911 emergency at Sundance, when he fell into unconsciousness.

Tracy responded, “The high altitude in Utah shook up this kid from Brooklyn.”

Morgan’s rep had previously released a statement saying the star’s collapse was the result of “a combination of exhaustion and altitude.”

Kathy Griffin’s “Diet Wars” Are No Laughing Matter

January 24, 2012

Divabetic: Kathy Griffin

Before comedian Kathy Griffin made a career of ripping on celebrities like Oprah, she dealt with drug abuse, a near-death experience with liposuction, and a major eating disorder  – accompanied by punchlines.

After moving to Hollywood, Kathy Griffin felt pressured to look perfect and had her first surgery, a nose job, at age 26. ”I was told repeatedly, ‘You would be pretty if it weren’t for that nose. You’d work more if it weren’t for that nose.’

During Griffin’s big break on Brooke Shields‘ sitcom ‘Suddenly Susan,’ she felt pressure to slim down. “I lost 15 lbs. friggin fast in season 1. But being on television, I was never thin enough. [Being on TV] told me that clothes didn’t come in anything larger than a four. That got to me,” she said.

Kathy Griffin became obsessed with her weight taking back-to-back step aerobics classes, starving herself all day and then binging at night. And the diet pills she used were like, “full-on illegal speed,” she joked. “I took it to lose weight, which is not very smart. I just felt three times as hungry afterward,” she said.

Finally, Griffin decided to go under the knife for liposuction. But complications from the procedure nearly killed her. “I want women to know that this is what lipo looks like. Like, are you sure you don’t want to just work out a little more?”

“What I can’t figure out is why I wasted time worrying about my looks. I am a comedian. I’m not on the runway in Milan. Believe it or not, people don’t come to see me really thinking I’m going to look like Jennifer Aniston,” she said.

Diet Divas Be Wary of 100-Calorie Snack Pack Attack!

January 24, 2012

Divabetic: Diet Divas

Lately, I’ve seen 100 calorie snack packs for yogurt, chips, and a host of other foods  in my local grocery store. They seem to be marketed primarily to ‘diet divas’ aka women on a diet or to use as a handy lunch box stuffer or after-school snack for your kids.

For the most part the 100 calorie snack packs are filled with stuff that’s not that healthy. These portion friendly snacks tend to be high in refined carbohydrates and low in fiber so they won’t control your hunger for long. And any nutritionist worth their weight in mangos, would agree that whole foods don’t come in 100 calorie snack packs.

A Healthy Cookie Called WhoNu?

January 24, 2012

Divabetic: WhoNu?

New WhoNu Cookies promise a “nutrition rich cookie” that has “as much Fiber as a bowl of oatmeal, as much Calcium & Vitamin D as an 80z glass of milk, and as much Vitamin C as a cup of blueberries.” I just saw the television ad on OWN.

The company specializes in making healthy cookies that are either chocolate or vanilla wafer’s that look exactly like Oreo‘s, as well as chocolate chip cookies that are similar looking to Chips A Hoy. Would this “diet” cookie be any better than the rest before it, or would it be just like the rest and not live up to the hype?

This a healthy cookie has added vitamins and minerals in it but its NOT  low in fat, calories, or sugar. Three cookies (36g): 160 calories, 7g fat, 150mg sodium, 25g carbs, 3g fiber, 14g sugars, 1g protein  – these are the exact same stats for a 34 g serving of Oreos,  except Oreos have 2g less fiber and less added vitamins (though they still have added B12 and B1).

Many people claim the problem with this Oreo knock-off is that it isn’t a Oreo, and the only reason you would try this is because you had the impression that it was a healthier alternative of which it really isn’t. Stick with the Oreo next time you want one and be sure to skip the imitation.
