Diana Ross Has The Upper Hand Over Upside Down Cake

May 4, 2012

Divabetic #divavsdessertIn the age old battle of the bulge it seems like superstar divas are much better than the rest of us at fighting off temptations.  What’s their secret?

She’s been in showing off her figure in slinky, sequined Bob Mackie gowns and bodysuits for almost 50 years so it not surprising to learn that Diana Ross is able to avoid Upside Down Cake with ease.

“I never like to think of myself as beautiful, said Ross,  “I like to think of myself as healthy. Beauty comes from being healthy.”

Eating right and staying active are Diana’s secrets to looking supreme at 60. Diana Ross  isn’t a ‘diva’ when it comes to working out either. She doesn’t need a fancy gym or a personal trainer to help her burn off the calories a sweet temptation.  “Cleaning is a tremendous stress reliever and keeps my body taut,” she says. So, it’s not just about your body, it’s about your mind too.

Find out how much physical activity it takes to burn off your favorite tempting sweet to make it easier to stick with your healthy eating plan. Realizing you have to run 10 miles might  make you think twice before eating a second slice!

Divabetic Tech: Apple Store Sells iPhone Glucose Meter

May 4, 2012

Divabetic techThe iBGStar  device from Sanofi and its partner device maker AgaMatrix (AgaMatrix’s Nugget) will arrive in the stores by May 15 — Apple’s online store and Walgreens.com are already selling the device. Apple is offering the iBGStar for about $100while Walgreens has priced it at about $75. (An iPhone or iPod touch is not included, of course, and while the meter works without the device, much of its value would be lost without one.)

Since Apple will not be selling testing strips for the device, its iBGStar package includes 50 strips, which explains the higher price. Walgreens’ iBGStar package includes just 10 strips, but additional strips can be purchased at Walgreens or from the store’s website.

Sanofi’s iBGStar is tiny. Some of the other bloggers and diabetes community leaders that attended Sanofi’s demo day this week noted that the device’s size alone is an impressive feature.

The device’s companion app, called iBGStar Diabetes Manager App, launched on Apple’s AppStore early last month. The app helps users analyze their glucose patterns over time, track eating and other activities that may have influenced their levels, and email data to care providers or others. The collected information is also displayed as scorecards that show individual test results in different colors that are coded to indicate high, low and within range blood glucose results. Readings from the iBGStar device are automatically loaded into the app when synched, and those readings are “locked” in — users are not able to edit them. Those readings also are indicated by a lock symbol on the corner of their scorecard, while any manually entered readings are marked with an “x” to indicate that they are editable and were manually entered. Sanofi expects that information to help care providers who might like to know which readings came from the device and were not edited.

Sanofi acknowledged that it is targeting a very specific group with an iPhone or iPod touch-based glucose meter. The company believes the number of potential users is about 1.6 million in the United States.

Kelly Ripa Admits Co-Hosting with Hubby Would Wreck Their Marriage

May 4, 2012

Kelly Ripa has auditioned “Live! With Kelly” co-hosts since Regis Philbin left the show in November 2011, but one name can be ruled out: Mark Consuelos, Ripa’s husband.

“No one would make me happier than Mark, but he values our marriage and he says that he doesn’t see how we could stay married and both do that show,” Ripa told Vanity Fair.

When Kathie Lee Gifford left “Live!” in 2000, Philbin hosted the program solo with a rotating cast of guest co-hosts for a year before Ripa officially joined. The show is following a similar format this year.

Several famous faces have been making return appearances to “Live! With Kelly” (weekdays on ABC). Consuelos, “Saturday Night Live’s” Seth Meyers, NY1’s Pat Kiernan, comedian D.L. Hughley, actor Jerry O’Connell, former football player Michael Strahan and singer Josh Groban have all made several appearances at the desk alongside Ripa.

“Every day we come up with new ideas, and we get new revelations about who the new host should or shouldn’t be,” executive producer Michael Gelman said. “The chemistry is key — and not just with Kelly, but with the audience and the staff and the format.”

Let Jean Harlow’s Blonde Ambition Inspire You

May 4, 2012

Diva TalkRadio free podcastsBefore the days of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Marilyn Monroe, the “Original Blonde Bombshell” aka Jean Harlow made her mark on Hollywood and the world, leaving behind a new image of the Hollywood sex goddess.

Let Jean Harlow inspire you to let your ‘inner goddess’ free and take charge of your diabetes like a diva!

Jean captivated fans with her trendsetting platinum blonde hair. On film she often wore white satin gowns, which combined with her ivory skin and platinum hair, gave Jean Harlow an unparalleled luminous quality. Harlow glowed from the screen, reached out and grabbed the attention of the viewer and never lost it.

In 1930, movie producer and entrepreneur Howard Hughes became interested in Jean and cast her in Hell’s Angels. In Hell’s Angels, she spoke the now famous line, “Would you be shocked if I changed into something more comfortable?” Jean’s appearance in Hell’s Angels solidified her role as America’s new sex symbol.

Jean was labeled a “screen siren” for her sensational dialogue and revealing costumes, but audiences, directors and producers alike appreciated her flair for comedy and drama.

Nutella Pays Millions For Making False Health Claims

May 4, 2012

Well, it turns out that eating everything slathered in nutella isn’t the healthiest thing for you.

The manufacturers of the chocolate-hazelnut spread, Ferrero, have agreed to a $3 million settlement in a lawsuit calling foul on the product’s purported health benefits. (Trust us, the amount of added sugar found in nutella would shock you!)

If you were led to believe such claims, which is what a new class action lawsuit alleges, you may be entitled to some cash. The suit, filed by California mom Athena Hohenberg, invites others who feel wronged by the sugary product to join along.

Of the award sum, $2.5 million will be divided among claimants. It comes to a payment of about $4 a jar for up to five jars, or less as more people hop on the let’s-sue-Nutella bandwagon. (Put in your own claim here.)

Court documents say that Hohenberg decided to take legal action when she realized the Nutella she’d been feeding her four-year-old daughter was “the next best thing to a candy bar.” She’d been convinced the hazelnut-chocolate spread was healthy by ads and product labels that seemed to suggest as much.

In addition to shelling out some hard cash, Ferrero must now change Nutella’s labeling and some marketing statements. It’ll also have to scrub television ads and their website clean of any misleading health claims.
