Barbecued fruit has a delicious flavor brought out by the flame, often causing the tasty juices to bubble to the surface as it evaporates, making the fruit extra sweet and delicious. If you’re entertaining using a barbecue, barbecuing fruits is a great way to the end of the meal!
In general, it’s best to avoid fruits that have a high water content (such as some berries) or delicate fruits, but pretty much any other sort of fruit can be barbecued with care or with a wrapping such as foil around the fruits. And, although watermelon has a high water content, it barbecues surprisingly well when cut into thick chunks.

Is blonde bombshell, Pamela Anderson heading to Broadway? The actress is rumored to star in the hit revival of John Kander,Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse‘s Tony Award-winning musical CHICAGO.
A source close to Anderson says, “She’s so excited! She’s practicing and getting ready for the role, putting in long hours working on her singing and dancing.”
Pamela is best known for her role as CJ Parker in the iconic TV show Baywatch. She is a mother, an activist for PETA, an entrepreneur and actress. Pamela recently heated up the dance floor on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ where she proved she’s ‘too hot to (fox) trot.’
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
Imagine if Pamela Anderson teamed up with David Hasselhoff for this production!

Ready for some Saturday morning fun? Mr. Divabetic‘s cat-friendly cartoon, Carb Kitty, makes counting carbs easy.
Between the potato salad, the hamburger buns, and the strawberry shortcake served at the cookout on July 4th, you may not realize how many carbohydrates you’re eating. Carbohydrates (“carbs”) can be counted 2 ways: by grams or by carb choices. Remember: 1 carb choice = 15 grams of carbohydrate.
The foods highest in carbs are high in starch or sugar. This includes anything made with flour or sugar, grains, foods with added sugar, and starchy vegetables such as potatoes and corn. Most processed foods are high in carbohydrates. Examples of low carb foods are proteins such as meat and eggs, most vegetables, low sugar fruits (such as strawberries), soy beans, and some dairy products.#carbkitty

Nora Ephron left behind a play, “Lucky Guy,” that will likely get to see the light of day.
The lead producer, Colin Callender said that his team “can think of no more fitting tribute to her extraordinary writing and remarkable body of work” than to proceed with plans to produce Ephron’s play.
“Lucky Guy” follows the story of tabloid reporter Mike McAlary, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for his coverage on the New York City police brutalization of Abner Louima. McAlary died that same year of colon cancer at age 41.

“Magic Mike: The Musical” will be ready to have dollars bills stuffed down its thong on Broadway next summer.
“Magic Mike,” is currently looking at taking in over $30 million this weekend, a rather remarkable feat in June, when you consider there are no superheroes, toys, or brands to be found.
Before you go writing off “Magic Mike” as being a one-note, gimmicky movie about handsome male strippers, you should know that director Steven Soderbergh has inserted some genuine complexity and non-superficial intrigue into the story. The movie is loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s real-life stripper past but critics seem to agree that there is much more to “Magic Mike” than just a bunch of man candy.

Barbecue sauces come in all types and flavors, but most people only know the store-bought kinds. If you’re looking for authentic flavor similar to your favorite barbecue restaurant, why not make a barbecue sauce from scratch? It’s so easy and requires simple, everyday ingredients like ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, etc.
Barbecue sauces come in many different flavors depending on the region they’re from. Some are more vinegary, or more ketchupy or leave out the ketchup entirely.
The Eastern Carolinas are known for their vinegary barbecue sauce. This Eastern Carolina Barbecue Sauce recipe from Steven Raichlen: Essential Grilling Techniques requires two types of vinegar, brown sugar and smoked paprika:
Ingredients
1 cup(s) reserved roasting juices, from Carolina Pulled Pork
1. In a medium bowl, combine roasting juices with white wine vinegar and cider vinegar. Add dark brown sugar and sweet smoked paprika, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Season with salt, pepper and hot sauce and serve.

What are we really drinking when we grab soda to quench our thirst?
Trace amounts of alcohol can be found in popular soft drinks including Coca-Cola and Pepsi, according to new findings by the National Institute of Consumption in Paris.
The research, published in the French magazine 60 Million Consumers, found small amounts of alcohol measuring around 0.001 percent per liter in 19 popular sodas around the world. Generic supermarket brands, however, were alcohol-free.
The publication has more background on why the alcohol was detected:
Coca-Cola France’s scientific director Michel Pepin told Channels TV that it is possible “alcohol traces come from the process of making our drink according to its secret recipe,” perhaps due to natural fruit fermenting.
While the amount of alcohol found is negligible, the revelation may anger thousands of Muslims, whose religion prohibits them from drinking alcohol.
Trace levels of alcohol can occur naturally in many foods and beverages. Governments and religious organizations have recognized that such minute levels are considered acceptable in nonalcoholic foods and beverages.
That being said, the news has prompted Coca-Cola to announce it will alter its recipe for sodas sold in the U.S. It reportedly has no plans to do so worldwide.

How much would you love to use a bloodless glucometer that will allow you to check your blood sugar without a finger prick?
A company that’s wrapped up initial testing of its bloodless glucometer and closed a series B round of financing thinks it has a good shot at becoming the “first noninvasive technology with a real shot at diagnostic accuracy,” in the words of its CEO.
Grove Instruments’ Optical Bridge technology uses near-infrared spectroscopy to measure a person’s real-time blood sugar in less than 20 seconds.
Grove is one of several companies working on a noninvasive diabetes test using spectroscopy including DIRAmed, C8 MediSensors and InLight Solutions. Challenges in developing devices using this technique have included water interference and low signal-to-noise ratio, but Grove thinks it has developed solutions to these problems
“Yes, we work in near-infrared spectroscopy space, but our methodology and our particular construct is unique within the space,” said CEO Arthur Combs. “We have strong validation that we have unique technology.”
Over the past few decades, diabetes researchers have studied with varied success a number of noninvasive ways to measure glucose including the use of saliva, breath and the watery substance at the front of the eye. Other companies currently developing or awaiting approval on noninvasive diabetes testing devices include the Israeli company Integrity Applications — which is anticipating approval in 2013, Echo Therapeutics and OrSense.
Research has demonstrated that self-monitoring of blood glucose has been associated with better glycemic control in type 1 diabetics and can improve health outcomes. “We’re not doing this just because people are babies and won’t stick their finger,” Combs said, adding that barriers to adherence of regular blood glucose testing include pain, blood aversion, complicated testing methods, embarrassment and cost. “Everybody has their own reasons why they don’t test. Our opportunity is to get everyone to benefit.”

PETA, the animal rights group is bashing Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for using animal pelts to create their $16,900 backpack for their fashion line The Row.
“What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value,” PETA said in a statement to Eonline.com. “ Sadly, it’s the foxes, calves, and alligators—who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain—who pay the dearest price.”
The bag has at least one fan — celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, who declared the furry accessory “a fashion favorite” that combines “comfort with class.”
The fuzzy knapsack is a bargain compared to its alligator skin incarnation.
It retails for $39,000.
Actress Jessica Biel recently tweeted a photo of herself wearing the $3,900 black calfskin version of the backpack, a gift from the Olsens.
In June, the twins were named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Still, PETA will forever hold a grudge against the glamorous duo.
