Sheryl Crow’s Brain Tumor

June 5, 2012

If you’ve seen Sheryl Crow in concert lately, she may have forgotten the lyrics to hit or two, and then laughed it off. But the songstress has revealed that her recent memory loss is the product of a medical condition. Although, the songstress — who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 — promises, it’s nothing to get worked up about.

“I haven’t really talked about it,” she revealed to the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper. “In November, I found out I have a brain tumor. But it’s benign, so I don’t have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit.”

The ‘fit’ to which Sheryl is referring comes in the form of memory problems. The article cites an instance at a concert nearly a month ago in Florida, where she forgot part of her classic hit, “Soak Up the Sun.” She brushed it off and told concert goers, “I’m 50, what can I say? My brain’s gone to (expletive).”

Such cognitive issues are actually what prompted Sheryl, who’s been cancer-free for more than five years, to seek medical help. “I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI,” the songstress recalls. “I found out I have a brain tumor, and I was like, ‘See? I knew there was something wrong.’”

More than six months later, the tumor hasn’t had much effect on her life. She’s still performing five to six times a month, and even working on a new album, which is slated for an October release.

“I don’t even have a record deal,” Sheryl admitted, before adding, “I probably will sign a record deal, though. I like the opportunity to be on radio.”

Michelle Obama Praises NYC Soda Ban

June 5, 2012

First lady Michelle Obama says banning big servings of sugary drinks isn’t anything she’d want to do at the federal level, but she offered some kind words for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s effort to do just that. She later issued a statement backing away from taking a stand on New York’s controversial proposed ban.

It was a telling example of the fine line the first lady walks as she tries to improve Americans’ health and eating habits without provoking complaints that she’s part of any “nanny state” telling people how to eat or raise their children.

Asked about Bloomberg’s proposal during an interview with The Associated Press, Mrs. Obama said there’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution for the country’s health challenges. But she said, “We applaud anyone who’s stepping up to think about what changes work in their communities. New York is one example.”

And asked whether the nation’s obesity epidemic warrants taking a more aggressive approach, such as Bloomberg’s, she said: “There are people like Mayor Bloomberg who are, and that is perfectly fine.”

Mrs. Obama later issued a statement saying that she hadn’t intended to weigh in on the Bloomberg plan “one way or the other.”

“I was trying to make the point that every community is different and every solution is different and that I applaud local leaders including mayors, business leaders, parents, etc., who are taking this issue seriously and working towards solving this problem.”

“But this is not something the administration is pursuing at a federal level and not something I’m specifically endorsing or condemning.”

Adele Admits To Spanx Addiction

June 5, 2012

Adele performed live for the TV special“Adele Live in London”  and sat down with Today anchor Matt Lauer for an exclusive interview.

The 24-year-old songbird talked about taking home six awards at this years Grammys, and even discussed her ensemble from the big night. Adele admited to Matt that she wore FOUR pairs of Spanx underneath. FOUR. One, two, three, FOUR.

Don’t get me wrong, We love a good pair of Spanx or Lipo In A Box - the way that they smooth everything over and make your tush looked toned — it’s a dream. However, four pairs? Under ONE dress? Don’t you think that’s a tad bit excessive?

I mean, Kudos to Adele. To be real, she looked fab that night — and the plethora of Spanx did get the singer a lot of press for a possible “slim down.”

Lindsay Lohan As Elizabeth Taylor in “Liz & Dick”

June 5, 2012

DivabeticLindsay Lohan certainly looks like Elizabeth Taylor  in a new still from her biopic, “Liz & Dick.”

She’s all done up like the Hollywood legend in the first official photo from the film, complete with a black bob, smoky eye makeup and lipstick. The black-and-white still also features her Richard Burton, “True Blood” actor Grant Bowler, kissing the smiling actress’ neck. Lifetime Studios released the photo in black and white because they wanted to give it a “classic” look.

The film will focus on the steamy — and heated — love affair between Taylor and Burton. The pair defined and redefined the rules for modern celebrity life as their torrid love affair often made the kind of the kind of headlines that would rival Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in the statement. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

Were rooting for you, Lindsay!

Alec Baldwin Supports NYC’s Ban on Super Size Sodas

June 5, 2012

Actor, Alec Baldwin thinks  New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed ban on super size sugar sweetened beverages is the right thing to do. Here are his comments:

“The need to understand and then decisively act upon the latest findings regarding sugar consumption, diabetes, overall nutritional guidelines and policies, and the public health crisis created by the U.S. obesity epidemic is urgent. This is true for both children and adults.

At first, my response to Bloomberg’s critics was more visceral. Some libertarian types don’t mind government intervention in the matrimonial decisions of gay men and women. They look the other way at wars fought in our name in places they can’t find on a map. They want courts to get involved when they want to tear down the wall between Church and State.

However, the public outcry over previous attempts to stop food stamp recipients from using their benefits to purchase soda and “sports drinks” and Bloomberg’s current proposal are indicative of how deep the problem runs in America.

Food is a drug. At least in the way it is marketed today, which is significantly different from when I grew up. As a child, sweets were referred to as “treats,” and were dispensed far more judiciously than they are today. The proliferation of fast food restaurants that serve high fat, high sugar meals, as well as places like Dunkin Donuts, which are simply sugar dispensaries, has evolved as well.

A quarter-pound hamburger with cheese, fries and a Coke was what you had after playing in a football game. And typically once a week. Gatorade, the granddaddy of sports drinks, was gulped on the gridiron or diamond or basketball court during a game. You didn’t eat those meals or drink those beverages everyday.

I recently lost over 30 pounds by giving up the lion’s share of refined sugar in my diet and reducing my intake of pasta, rice and bread. I switched to almond milk and have reduced my dairy consumption significantly.

I watched the HBO documentary The Weight of a Nation and many of the overweight people interviewed there spoke of being not only demoralized, but confused by a chronic weight gain that they struggled with and were ultimately powerless to overcome. I can relate.

I exercised constantly yet watched my weight climb until I was certain something was wrong with me. In May of 2011, that fear was confirmed. I was told I was pre-diabetic and needed to aggressively rethink and regulate my diet. Gone were the days when I could eat a peanut butter cookie the size of a hubcap with my 5pm coffee as a “snack.” With age, my body had changed. My health had changed. My ability to process significant amounts of sugar was gone. I was sick. And I wanted to get well.

Many of those who cry loudest about measures like the one Bloomberg has proposed are probably sick, too: hooked on high fat, high sodium and high sugar diets who don’t want their “drug” taken away. Are there people who consume these products responsibly? Of course. But that isn’t the point. At least not anymore. Americans are obese, and in some areas of high concentration, morbidly obese, in numbers that are sapping the treasuries of the fifty states, undercutting U.S. competitiveness, and leaving this country vulnerable to a set of long-term health crises that we will struggle to overcome, if ever. All the while, millions will die, unnecessarily, simply because they fell victim to the marketing of unhealthy dietary choices.

Whether you think an elitist, billionaire New Yorker has any business blocking your path to the soda fountain is one issue. His motives, however, are unquestionable.

Watch The Weight of a Nation on HBO to learn just how on target Bloomberg is.”
