3 Questions That Joan Rivers Won’t Ask on The Red Carpet

June 13, 2012

Divabetic Red CarpetJoan Rivers  invented the red carpet for E! Entertainment and TV Guide Network. She’s seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst on the red carpet. Joan Rivers has rendered the final judgment on Oscar red carpet fashions for over 15 years.

But there are a few questions Joan Rivers won’t ask including ‘what’s on their plate?’

Joan Rivers inspired me to turn the red carpet into the red “tomato” carpet and talk to people about ‘what they’re eating’ instead of ‘what they’re wearing’ to raise diabetes awareness in a fun new way

Join me, the happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic as I roll out the red carpet at the 66th Annual Tony® Awards at the Beacon Theater in New York to talk about divas, dazzle and diabetes.

Cameron Diaz Plans to Nutrition Book for Teenage Girls

June 13, 2012

Divabetic Cameron Diaz is quite literally taking a page from the book of her good friend Gwyneth Paltrow. The stunning actress is dipping her toes in the publishing world and  busy writing her first book!

She’s writing about the importance of proper nutrition and staying healthy for impressionable young girls. In addition to her own story, the book will also feature advice and expertise not only from top nutritionists, but some of Cameron’s celebrity pals, including Drew BarrymoreJennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow.

“Cameron wants to stop their fixation on being thin, and for teenage girls to understand that being healthy is more important,” a publishing source told E! News. “She wants to use her celebrity to make a difference. She knows she is a role model to girls and she really wants to use that position to do good.

“This book is not about weight, it’s about making the right choices.”

“Cameron is going to be visiting high schools around the country to talk to teenagers about their food choices and what is important to them,” the source told E! News. “She wants them to know that being thin should not be their priority, it’s about getting the right vitamins and knowing what foods will give them energy and keep them strong. She wants to get their feedback, learn about how they decide what to eat now, and teach them to make more informed choices.”

When did the literary urge strike Cameron’s fancy?

“Everything changed for Cameron after her father died,” the source said. “She realized what is important and started to think more and more about her health.”

Diva Book Club: Two Whole Cakes

June 13, 2012

Divabetic Book Club“Two Whole Cakes” is the delightful, insightful new book by fat activist Lesley Kinzel. This self-help book that reads like a novel about Kinzel’s personal war on her own obesity  and will open your mind to what the movement has to offer. Even if you’re not interested in fat acceptance, Kinzel’s thoughts are interesting on their own.

Kinzel says, “by calling myself “fat,” I’m saying this is who I am. This is the body I have. This is the right body for me because it’s the one I’m living with. I know there’s a lot of political tangling about the use of words that are considered slurs. I wouldn’t call “fat” a slur, but it’s traditionally been an insult. “Fat” is not a bad word. Rather than saying “overweight,” which implies there is a correct weight, I’m using “fat” purely as a descriptive word. Just using the word has acceptance almost understood. I know a lot of women don’t use it that way. When they say, “I’m so fat!” what they really mean is, “Tell me I’m not.”

New York Soda Ban Gets Fizzy

June 13, 2012

Divabetic Soda BanNew York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, enjoying the freedom that only a final term in office can bring, has proposed banning the sale of soda and other sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces at restaurants, sports venues, delis and food carts, effective next March.

If you want your drink super-sized, you will have to buy two — or go back for a refill.

New Yorkers seemed mixed about the proposal. While some feel outraged, others are very supportive of Mayor Bloomberg’s ban. What’s your view? Do you feel Americans ought to be able to drink nine Mountain Dews a day if he or she wants to?
