Healthy Barbecue Tip: Greens On the Grill

June 21, 2012

Divabetic Healthy BarbecueSummer means grilling for many American families, and why not? When the weather is warm, we try to stay out of the hot kitchen. But before you dust off that grill, here’s a WebMD tip to help you enjoy the BBQ season while keeping your dinners as lean and healthy as can be.

HEALTHY BARBECUE TIP: Throw some veggies on the grill

The best part about grilling vegetables is that you don’t have to worry about overcooking them as you do with some types of meat. And vegetables seem to taste better grilled than they do cooked any other way.

Marinating vegetables will help them caramelize better when they’re grilled, and it’s the caramelization that brings the best flavors. Just submerge the vegetables in marinade for about an hour before putting them on the grill. If you don’t have that kind of prep time, just coat the vegetables ever so lightly with a little olive oil or canola oil.

Death By Pedicure?!!!

June 21, 2012

Divabetic PedicuresSummer’s here so plenty of people will be showing off their toes for the next few months. If you’re one of those divas who would never be caught dead with unpolished toenails, there’s a few things you should know.

There are two documented cases of “death by pedicure” where young women contracted fatal flesh-eating staph infections and thousands of documented cases of bacterial and fungal infections. Contaminated instruments are the number one cause of salon infections. Molds, bacteria and viruses are more likely to come into contact with clients when instruments are shared, and that can lead to disasters. Communal instruments are also dangerous to the manicurist should they have any open cuts or abrasions.

The cure: Bring in your own surgical stainless steel instruments.

It’s the easiest way to avoid a beauty nightmare and still be a ‘DIVA.’

Ann Curry In Talks To Leave Today Show

June 21, 2012

NBC News is getting ready to replace Ann Curry as a co-host of the “Today” show.

The New York Times reported that Curry and NBC executives have begun discussing a transition out of her hosting role. The negotiations are expected to be done by the network’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in July.

“That way, ‘Today’ can go to the games with a complete, comfortable team of co-hosts,” a source familiar with the situation told the Times. Some observers predicted that a different arrangement could be announced as early as next week.

It is unknown whether Curry has accepted a deal yet. She is currently being represented by attorney Robert Barnett — who helped Christiane Amanpour negotiate her dual role at CNN and ABC News after leaving “This Week” — in the talks.

Since ascending to the job last June, Curry has faced a constant barrage of negative press about the show’s declining ratings and her chemistry with co-host Matt Lauer, which many felt was touched with more than a tinge of frost. The heat turned all the way up after “Good Morning America” beat “Today” in the ratings for the first week in sixteen years. Curry acknowledged the pressure she was facing at the time, whileformer host Meredith Vieira, whom she replaced, spoke out in her defense.
