Jessica Simpson Has First Weight Watchers Weight-In

July 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerThe scale doesn’t lie no matter how much money you’re making.  If it did it would probably be on Oprah’s Favorite Things list year after year.

There’s probably no one in the world more concerned about her weight than new mom,  Jessica Simpson.

Jessica Simpson is eager to get her pre-baby body back after giving birth to daughter Maxwell Drew on May 1.

“For me, I really want to do something that is a lifestyle,” Simpson, 31, told PEOPLE. “In the past I’ve been known to yo-yo diet.”

“Jessica has always had issues with junk food,” says a Simpson pal. So the 5-foot-3 fashion mogul has called in reinforcements: She enlisted her mom, Tina, and a few pals to do the program “to help keep herself in check,” says the insider.

In late May, the designer started Weight Watchers – for which she’s a spokesperson – and has been focused on losing weight gradually.

Do you or Jessica really know what’s realistic weight loss goal? Experts agree that over the long term, it’s best to aim for losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. To lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, you need to burn 500 to 1,000 calories more than you consume each day, through a lower calorie diet and regular exercise.

“She understands it’s a process,” a Simpson friend tells PEOPLE, adding that the star is “working very hard and she’s excited.”

As for rumors that there’s a deadline for her to lose her post-baby bulge, a rep for the weight-loss company says that’s untrue.

“Weight Watchers is in it for the long haul,” says a spokesperson. “We’re with her 100 percent as she develops a whole new relationship with food and activity.”

Other sources confirm that Jessica’s Weight Watchers contract requires a 20- to 30-pound loss by the end of August or no payday.

Anne Hathaway Dazzles at Dark Knight Premiere

July 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerActress Anne Hathaway traded her skin tight leather catsuit for a sexy, flowing white dress to attend the premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” in New York.

The gorgeous gown from Prabal Gurung‘s Resort 2013 collection took our breath away  has a floor-length white jersey gown with a plunging neckline, draped back, and dramatic train that brought a heavy dose of glamour to the film’s NYC red carpet.

But if it lacked material at the top, the super-long outfit made up for it at the bottom, with yards of white material causing a trip hazard for the 29-year-old star.

Anne, who plays Catwoman in the Dark Knight Rises, was still sporting the cropped cut she had for her role in Les Misérables.

The floor-length stunner had everyone asking about the actress’ upcoming nuptials to Adam Shulman.

She told “Extra”, “I thought about it. I’m like, ‘Oh God, everybody’s going to talk about the wedding dress now.” Staying mum on details, Anne revealed she simply has “no time” to plan the big day.

Halle Berry Rushed To Hospital

July 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerOne of our favorite “DIVA-betics”, Halle Berry was taken to the hospital last night after an on-set accident in Los Angeles, according to X17 Online.

The Academy Award winner fell, hitting her head on concrete,  which took place on the set of Berry’s forthcoming thriller, “The Hive.” The 45-year-old actress living with diabetes was transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center via ambulance.

This is not Berry’s first film-related accident. In September 2011, the actress broke her foot on a day off from shooting “Cloud Atlas” in Spain. The injury forced Berry to work with a stunt double and producers to shoot the actress only from the waist up.

New Enhanced NutriSystem D Plan Helps People With Type 2 Diabetes

July 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerNutrisystem recently announced the debut of its enhanced weight management plan for people with diabetes, Nutrisystem D. Nutrisystem D is a home-delivered, portion-controlled, nutritionally balanced weight loss program that is based on the science of the low glycemic index and meets the nutritional guidelines of the American Diabetes Association.

The program is specifically designed to help people with type 2 diabetes effectively lose weight and better manage their blood glucose levels.  The basis for the enhanced program includes new clinical findings, a new means of customer access to Certified Diabetes Educators, and a previously announced, expanded relationship as a National Strategic Partner with the American Diabetes Association.

”Weight loss brings impressive improvement in the control of diabetes,” says Dr. Gary Foster, Director of the Center for Obesity Research and Education at Temple University School of Medicine.

As part of the enhanced plan, Nutrisystem D has now added Certified Diabetes Educators to its staff of nutritional counselors, providing easy access for Nutrisystem D customers and potential customers to diabetes experts who can address consumers’ questions including those about use of the program to lose weight and help manage their blood glucose.

Exercise Adds Years To Your Life

July 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerYou’ve got to move your body to live longer.  A new study in the journal The Lancet shows just how big of a toll physical inactivity takes on our health — and how its relationship with death may be comparable to that of smoking.

Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School found that not engaging in moderate exercise for 150 minutes a week (what is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) was linked with 5.3 million deaths worldwide in 2008 — about 9 percent of all deaths.

“With elimination of physical inactivity, life expectancy of the world’s population might be expected to increase by 0.68 years,” researchers wrote in the study. “These findings make inactivity similar to the established risk factors of smoking and obesity.”

The researchers found that not engaging in the recommended exercise levels was the main cause of 6 to 10 percent of coronary heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer and Type 2 diabetes cases around the world.

Specifically, not meeting the recommended exercise levels was linked with 6 percent of coronary heart disease cases, 7 percent of cases of Type 2 diabetes, and 10 percent of cases of colon and breast cancer.

The CDC recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes per week of a moderate aerobic exercise – like walking briskly — plus two or more days of muscle-strengthening activities. Or, another recommended combination is 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic exercise — like running — along with two or more days of muscle-strengthening activities. Yet another recommended combination is doing a mix of vigorous and moderate aerobic exercises along with the two days or more of muscle-strengthening exercise.

And you don’t need to do all that exercise in one sitting: The CDC says that doing just a bit at a time – even 10 minute increments — can help you achieve recommended exercise levels.
