‘Paranormal State’ Star Ryan Buell’s Pancreatic Cancer

August 10, 2012

Divabetic Summer“Paranormal State” star Ryan Buell has announced that he is battling pancreatic cancer, People magazine reported.

The 30-year-old paranormal investigator has been keeping his fans and supporters updated on his goings-on and his condition on his Facebook page. On Monday, one of his “Paranormal State” staff members posted on his Facebook page that he had to be hospitalized because of kidney complications.

“Hey everybody. Last night at the hospital, Ryan underwent a medical procedure and it was successful. He is currently back home resting. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.” Thank you. ~ Cereza, PRS Staff

The Wall Street Journal reported that the incidence rate of new cases of pancreatic cancer has been increasing around one percent each year, according to the American Cancer Society. The cancer is very deadly – the fourth deadliest cancer for men, and the third deadliest for women, according to the National Cancer Institute.

That’s because, unlike many other cancers, catching pancreatic cancer early, doesn’t necessarily improve a patient’s prognosis, the Mayo Clinic reported. Plus, it’s hard to catch early in the first place because symptoms may not arise until it’s too late.

People who are overweight or obese, who have pancreatitis, who have diabetes, who smoke, who are African-American, have a family history of certain medical conditions that could raise cancer risk, or have a family history of pancreatic cancer itself are more likely to develop pancreatic cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are most commonly used to treat the cancer.

How Mariah Carey Remembers Whitney Houston

August 10, 2012

Divabetic SummerAmerican Idol’s newest judge, Mariah Carey’s eyes are clearly moist with tears as she remembers Whitney Houston.

“The first time I heard Whitney’s voice, I was mesmerized like the rest of the world. Just an unknown, budding singer myself, I was captivated by the power in her range, the richness of her tone and her unique ability to wrap a lyric in emotion,” Carey said.

Carey talked for a while about Houston, sometimes laughing a bit as she recalled their first meeting backstage at the Grammys and the often-talked-about rumors of a diva rift between the two singers.

Ultimately, they worked together on the “Prince of Egypt” soundtrack, winning an Academy Award. “We really got to know each other as people. Not divas — OK, maybe occasionally it did get a little diva-ish — but that was just for laughs,” she said, before adding that Houston kept it real, which is why they got along so well. “If you really knew Whitney, you couldn’t help but love her,” she said.

The last time Carey said she saw her was exactly a year ago in London. “I miss my friend. I miss hearing her voice and laughter. But we’ll always have the music,” Carey said, struggling to fight back tears as the crowd clapped her on in encouragement. “We’ll always have that voice we all fell in love with. She inspired us all.”

The songstress wrote a message, encouraging her fans, and all others to remember the singer Whitney Houstontoday, as it is her birthday.

Mariah Carey wrote on Twitter of singer Whitney Houston: “Happy birthday Whitney. Let’s remember this beautiful icon on the day of her birth. #RIPWhitneyHouston.” The two star’s once collaborated on a song together, and like Carey, the fans are remembering the icon today, as it would have been her 49th birthday.
