Kids Eat More Veggies with Goofy Names

September 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerRenaming fruits and vegetables with catchy, attractive  names could convince children to eat them, according to a new study.

Researchers at Cornell University’s Food and Brand Lab tested the likelihood that students at five ethnically and economically diverse schools schools would eat items dubbed “X-Ray Vision Carrots,” “Power Punch Broccoli,” “Tiny Tasty Tree Tops” and “Silly Dilly Green Beans” over the same foods labeled “Food of the Day.”

The results were overwhelming — for instance, in one school 66 percent of the carrots labeled “X-Ray Vision Carrots” were eaten up versus the 32 percent when they were labeled “Food of the Day.”

In a release, the study’s lead author Brian Wansink explained that the finding could provide a cheap solution to improving kids’ diets:

“These results demonstrate that using attractive names for healthy foods increases kid’s selection and consumption of these foods and that an attractive name intervention is robust, effective and scalable at little or no cost,” Wansink said. “This research also confirms that using attractive names to make foods sound more appealing works on individuals across all age levels.”

The Cornell findings aren’t the first to suggest simple tweaks could add up to big changes in kids’ diets. Earlier this year, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that students served with trays that pictured carrots and green beans in its compartments were more likely to select those foods for lunch.

Is Adele Going To Be the New Bond Girl?

September 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerIt’s been reported around the world that superstar and Divabetic fan favortie,  Adele is singing the new Bond theme, but there’s no official confirmation.

So far there’s been on word from Sony Pictures, which distribute the Bond movies, or Eon Productions, the company in charge of Bond, despite the 23rd Bond film, Skyfall, due for release on 26 October 2012.

The latest from Sony regarding Adele singing the theme is a simple, “nothing confirmed, no comment.”

Adele herself dropped a hint during an interview on Jonathan Ross’ chat show on ITV1 in September 2011.

“I’m going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed,” Adele told Ross.

“Well this is actually a theme, what I’ve got to do for, um… Wow. That’s really giving something away isn’t it?”

When Ross then hummed the 007 theme music, Adele laughed and said, ‘No’ – but that could have been a nervous reaction.

The recording could have stalled last year as it was in November 2011 that Adele underwent throat surgery in America for a haemorrhaged vocal chord.

Then in April 2012, Adele told French radio station NRJ that she will have a new single out by the end of this year, but that an album was still two years away.

Releasing a one-off single, the Bond theme, would clearly fit that schedule.

Chirstina Aguilera And Cee Lo Green Leaving “The Voice”

September 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerI can’t believe it! Last night at dinner with friends in Little Italy, NY everyone was talking about how much they love all four judges on ‘The Voice’ and  why this show so much better than any other reality singing show.  Everyone thinks Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Lambert but Christina Aguilera are a winning combination so imagine my dismay when I woke up to find out that there’s going to be a shake up next season.

Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will not be involved in the fourth cycle of “The Voice,” NBC announced today. The two coaches will be replaced by R&B artist Usher and Grammy-winning songstress, Divabetic’s December 2011 Diva Inspiration for our Diabetes Roundtable podcast,  Shakira when the show returns for a fourth season in the spring.

Aguilera is taking time off from the talent competition to release a new album and embark on tour, while Green is said to be developing new music and a scripted comedy based on his own life for NBC. Fellow coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will remain with the series through Season 4, although their involvement in future cycles has yet to be announced.

“We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to ‘The Voice.’ The addition of these popular iconic artists continues the tradition established by Christina, Cee Lo, Adam and Blake,” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. “Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo. The participants on our show benefit from our coaches’ expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return.”

“Being a coach on ‘The Voice’ is a wonderful experience and the relationship amongst us all is like an extended family,” said Aguilera. “I am so proud of being part of the show from the beginning, all the work we’ve done, and proud of what the show stands for as a whole. As I have expressed since day one of the show, that I am a singer and performer first and I am so excited to get back to that love.”

Though the show’s decision to air two cycles a year initially seemed excessive, “The Voice” is currently holding its own in the ratings, even beating the much-anticipated return of “The X Factor” with Britney Spears as a coach.
