NY Fashion Week just ended with our friend, Evetta Petty’s fabulous Spring 2013 Hat Fashion Show and we could barely fit into anything!
Even though we skipped dessert all week, ate salad after salad and drank nothing but water, we still could only squeeze into a pair of our size 4′s and not our beautiful size 0 Rag & Bone jeans.
We were hoping to look like Heidi Klum in Jordache or Brooke Shields in her Calvins but instead we ended up looking like we were wearing a pair of “mom jeans.”
What gives?!! Are we the only girl in the world (Thank you, Rihanna) who feels like insulin is making them FAT!!!!
Apparently the answer is ‘NO’
We found out that many people gain weight when they begin taking insulin. The reason for this is when your blood sugar was too high, many of the calories you ate were flushed out of your system in your urine. Since insulin therapy turns those calories into energy for your body’s cells, all those lost calories are now being absorbed, which leads to weight gain.
Weight gain may also be related to other complex functions of insulin in the body related to how cells use fats and proteins.
The good news is eating healthy foods and staying physically active every day can help prevent unwanted weight gain. THANK YOU! We’re making a date with the treadmill because were definitely not skipping our insulin dosages to ward off weight gain. It’s stupid. Although you might shed pounds if you take less insulin than prescribed, the risks are serious. Without enough insulin, your blood sugar level will rise — and so will your risk of diabetes complications. One of our close friends lost her vision from shortchanging her insulin dosages. We plan to see all the fabulous fashions for New York Fashion Week Fall 2013.
