Oslen Tiwns $17,000 Fur Bag Bashed by PETA

June 28, 2012

Divabetic Wack or WowPETA, the animal rights group is bashing Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for using animal pelts to create their $16,900 backpack for their fashion line The Row.

“What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value,” PETA said in a statement to Eonline.com. “ Sadly, it’s the foxes, calves, and alligators—who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain—who pay the dearest price.”

The bag has at least one fan — celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, who declared the furry accessory “a fashion favorite” that combines “comfort with class.”

The fuzzy knapsack is a bargain compared to its alligator skin incarnation.

It retails for $39,000.

Actress Jessica Biel recently tweeted a photo of herself wearing the $3,900 black calfskin version of the backpack, a gift from the Olsens.

The fashion world continues to be impressed with the former child stars.

In June, the twins were named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Still, PETA will forever hold a grudge against the glamorous duo.

Summer’s Newest Hair Trend: Hair Chalk

June 28, 2012

Divabetic Wack Or Wow?!If you’ve been a little wary of coloring your hair, especially on your own at home get ready for  an awesome way to get multi-colored tips without any commitment - hair chalking! It’s super-easy, and we had a ton of fun doing it.

Want to turn back time like Cher, and look like teenager again?!!! Here’s how you can get the look too!
You’ll need:
Soft pastel chalk. We picked this giant set up from a local craft store for about $5!
A small spray bottle filled with water
A flat iron or curling iron
Rubber gloves
A old towel or t-shirt you don’t mind getting color on.

Step 1: Spray a 1-inch section of hair with water. You don’t need to soak the entire strand, just go as high up as you want the color to be.

Step 2: Color on your hair with one of the pastels.  Professionals recommend choosing about threehair chalkingcolors, and putting one at a time in your hair. Start with the lightest shade first, since, as you can see, the color gets all over your gloves and you’ll end up with a muddied version of the same hue throughout if you go dark to light.

Step 3: Wait for your hair to air dry.

Step 4: Using the curling or flat iron, go over each colored strand. This sets the colors in your hair, so it will last longer. Then brush and style however you normally would!

The color stayed in  hair (which is naturally medium blonde)for about a week, while my friend’s (who bleaches her hair) washed out the next day. The best part about this technique is that it works for people with darker hair too, although the color is much more subtle.

“Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, You’re as welcome as can be!”

The first-ever Game Night at the Divabetic Club- NYC was officially declared ‘FREE, FUN & FANTASTIC’ by the divas! Who knew diabetes education could be almost as much fun as a trip to Disneyland?!!

Our free monthly meeting kicked-off with a rousing round of ‘Pass The Boa’, where members share their ‘diagnosis to diva’ stories. Divas living with type 1, type 2 and affected by diabetes touched on a variety of topics from accepting diagnosis, getting back on track with self-care, contemplating gastric band surgery, to dealing with the ever annoying diabetes police in our lives! Guest Divabetic educator, Joy Pape CDE, RN, Author of  ’The Real-Life Guide To Diabetes’  and her husband, Brian, joined us too. Joy and guest, Sharon V., from The Beth Israel Latino Institute, spoke to the group about the future of NYC healthcare and took questions before Mr. Divabetic did his best Oprah impersonation and commented, “LET THE GAMES BEGIN!”

With the hourglass keeping time, Divabetic Beauty & Style Expert and recent guest on the Dr. Oz show , Catherine Schuller, proved to be one of the fastest and fiercest thinkers during fun and laughter of the night’s featured game ‘Taboo.’ She eventually lost to dueling diva pals, Phyllis and Leslie.

The meeting ended with free, fabulous and gorgeous giveaways from our friends at Dr. Scholl’s, Diabetes Self-Management and Accu-Chek. One special diva, Phyllis J., received our newest bright white Divabetic Tote Bag (available soon in the Diva Shop.)

Come along and sing a song and join the jamboree!  Check out July’s Divabetic Club meeting dates in Cleveland , OH, Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY and listen to Joy Pape’s recent Diva TalkRadio- Spotlight  appearance at divabetic.org
