Beyonce’s Diet Secret: The Lemon Detox Diet

February 4, 2013
I'm not Bitter, I Am Beyonce!

I’m not Bitter, I Am Beyonce!

Need to lose weight FAST for a big event? Like the Half-time show at the Super Bowl?

Many famous celebrities like Beyonce are turning to detox diets or ‘fasts’ and not Pepsi  in order to look their best in the shortest amount of time.

“I lived on water, cayenne pepper and maple syrup for 14 days. It was tough; everyone was eating and I was dying,” said Beyonce. But, in two weeks she reportedly lost 20 pounds.

With Awards season in high gear, the GRAMMY AWARDS are next week and I’m nominated for WEGO Health Activist Awards, I’m facing the same challenge of wanting to look my best on the Red Carpet in a short amount of time.  So should I jump on the ‘detox diet’ bandwagon? Is it healthy?

I’ll be discussing the Lemon Detox Diet with Constance Brown Riggs, MSEd, RD, CDE, the author of ‘The African American Guide To Living Well With Diabetes’ , and ‘Eating Soulfully and Healthfully with Diabetes’, on Divabetic’s upcoming free monthly Diabetes Roundtable podcast on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 6-7 PM, EST. Show Link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/divatalkradio1/2013/02/12/diabetes-roundtable-inspired-by-sally-field

The Lemon Detox Diet consists of fresh water, pure lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and natural maple syrup. The acid in the lemons claims to assist the cleansing process, and the cayenne pepper helps speed up your metabolism promoting circulation and a greater release of toxins from our bodies. They say that this detox diet will help you cleanse your body, lose weight quickly and make you feel better overall. (I’m always become a bit skeptical when I hear too many benefits!)

As a culture, we eat a lot of processed  foods, that we add very little nutrition to our bodies. What the creators of detox diets say is that these types of diets allow our bodies to naturally cleanse themselves, while we take a break from solid food. What do you think?

Wednesday’s World Premiere Video: Plate Poetry Project

November 14, 2012

Divabetic FallDivabetic’s Diabetes Plate Poetry  Project describes the emotional experience of living with diabetes.  An important component of diabetes self-management, but often unaddressed, is the topic of emotional well being.  The Divabetic Club empowers those living with diabetes through media to manage their lives in healthier ways. People living with diabetes face numerous challenges in managing their disease on a day- to- day basis.

Divabetic wants to encourage these individuals to stay positive and healthy in their self-management. Our mission to glamorize good health combines fitness, nutrition, style and positive energy.

This video aims to assess the emotions associated with managing diabetes and the underlying reasons attributed to those emotions.

See Mr. Divabetic’s nutrition game, Serve, Taste or Trash!  You must decide which one you’d serve, which one you’d taste and which one you’d trash.

Before you decide to “trash” a veggie for good, why not try to eat it raw? Raw veggies can be more appetizing than their cooked counterparts to people who aren’t crazy about vegetables. The flavors of raw veggies can be milder than those of cooked ones.

“Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, You’re as welcome as can be!”

The first-ever Game Night at the Divabetic Club- NYC was officially declared ‘FREE, FUN & FANTASTIC’ by the divas! Who knew diabetes education could be almost as much fun as a trip to Disneyland?!!

Our free monthly meeting kicked-off with a rousing round of ‘Pass The Boa’, where members share their ‘diagnosis to diva’ stories. Divas living with type 1, type 2 and affected by diabetes touched on a variety of topics from accepting diagnosis, getting back on track with self-care, contemplating gastric band surgery, to dealing with the ever annoying diabetes police in our lives! Guest Divabetic educator, Joy Pape CDE, RN, Author of  ’The Real-Life Guide To Diabetes’  and her husband, Brian, joined us too. Joy and guest, Sharon V., from The Beth Israel Latino Institute, spoke to the group about the future of NYC healthcare and took questions before Mr. Divabetic did his best Oprah impersonation and commented, “LET THE GAMES BEGIN!”

With the hourglass keeping time, Divabetic Beauty & Style Expert and recent guest on the Dr. Oz show , Catherine Schuller, proved to be one of the fastest and fiercest thinkers during fun and laughter of the night’s featured game ‘Taboo.’ She eventually lost to dueling diva pals, Phyllis and Leslie.

The meeting ended with free, fabulous and gorgeous giveaways from our friends at Dr. Scholl’s, Diabetes Self-Management and Accu-Chek. One special diva, Phyllis J., received our newest bright white Divabetic Tote Bag (available soon in the Diva Shop.)

Come along and sing a song and join the jamboree!  Check out July’s Divabetic Club meeting dates in Cleveland , OH, Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY and listen to Joy Pape’s recent Diva TalkRadio- Spotlight  appearance at divabetic.org
