The Secret To Adele’s Updo Hairstyle at the Golden Globes

January 21, 2013
Adele's Updo Hairstyle

Adele’s Updo Hairstyle

The hottest beauty trend to emerge from the Golden Globes a week later seems to be  British Singer, Adele’s updo hairstyle. What? This news is surprising because a week ago I put Adele — Globe winner for her Skyfall theme song — firmly on my ‘Worst Dressed’ List. I think she was dressed rather ‘frumpy’ for a Rock n’ Roll goddess. If she’s ’21’ or thereabouts why is she dressing like she’s ’91’ or Betty White? Adele’s matronly look was compliments of Burberry, Van Cleef and Arpel jewels and Miu Miu shoes. Her makeup and hair were created by Michael Ashton for Michael Ashton Beauty.

Can you image Madonna wearing Adele’s ‘Knot Landing’ cocktail dress or hairstyle back in her “Material Girl” heyday? I sincerely doubt it. But judging from my twitter and facebook messages I am in the minority.

“Adele’s big hair matches her big voice,” declares Joico Int’l Creative Director Damien Carney. “It’s large and strong and evokes a modern ‘60s feeling.”

Here’s how to get the look:

1. Apply two drops of Joico Smooth Cure Leave-In Rescue to damp hair, comb through and blow dry with a large round brush.

2. Set hair with heated rollers to create volume and body. Remove rollers and brush through thoroughly.

3. Isolate the front hairline and clip away.

4. Mist the remaining hair with Joico JoiShape Shaping and Finishing Spray. Once the spray dries, brush through—the spray will make it easier to control and construct the shape.

5. Divide the hair into two sections, front and back. Beginning at the crown, backcomb large, horizontal sections at the scalp. Continue backcombing, switching to vertical sections at the sides and finishing in the front.

6. Without disturbing the volume, lightly smooth and gather the hair away from the face.

Adele sported an intricate interwoven bun that looks particularly good with blond or gray hair because you can see it. From the front she kept it clean and classic with a bit of a ’60s vibe.

Adele Welcomes Baby Boy!

October 22, 2012

Divabetic FallSuperstar Adele is officially rolling deep in the diapers!

The British singing sensation, 24, gave birth to a baby boy, a family source confirms to PEOPLE.

“We are all over the moon,” the source says.

In June, Adele posted a message on her web site announcing that she was expecting a baby with her boyfriend, Simon Konecki.

“Obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time,” she wrote.

Even as the Grammy winner thrilled fans with the recent release of new material, the James Bond theme song “Skyfall,” Adele was “totally laying low and nesting,” a source recently told PEOPLE. “She is just thrilled [about becoming a mom].”

Adele’s 007 Theme Song Misses Number 1 Spot

October 15, 2012

Divabetic FallAdele‘s James Bond theme tune “Skyfall” failed in its mission to top the charts on the UK Pop Charts for a second week.

The Grammy winner, 24, was hot favorite to become the first singer to get to number one with a 007 theme.

But Scandinavian DJ supergroup Swedish House Mafia took the top spot with their track “Don’t You Worry Child”.

“Skyfall”, which debuted at number four last weekend, made second place.

No Bond theme has ever reached number one on the Official Singles Chart, but Duran Duran’s 1985 single “A View To A Kill” also reached number two.

Adele was prevented from reaching the top spot by Rihanna’s “Diamonds” last Sunday, which has now slipped to number four.

Mother-to-be Adele teamed up with Paul Epworth, who co-wrote and produced her massive hit “Rolling In The Deep”, to write “Skyfall” for the new film of the same name.

Stars who have missed out on the top spot with a Bond theme include Paul McCartney, Tom Jones and Madonna.

The film, again starring Daniel Craig as Bond, premieres on October 26, 2012. We can’t wait!

Is Adele Going To Be the New Bond Girl?

September 18, 2012

Divabetic SummerIt’s been reported around the world that superstar and Divabetic fan favortie,  Adele is singing the new Bond theme, but there’s no official confirmation.

So far there’s been on word from Sony Pictures, which distribute the Bond movies, or Eon Productions, the company in charge of Bond, despite the 23rd Bond film, Skyfall, due for release on 26 October 2012.

The latest from Sony regarding Adele singing the theme is a simple, “nothing confirmed, no comment.”

Adele herself dropped a hint during an interview on Jonathan Ross’ chat show on ITV1 in September 2011.

“I’m going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed,” Adele told Ross.

“Well this is actually a theme, what I’ve got to do for, um… Wow. That’s really giving something away isn’t it?”

When Ross then hummed the 007 theme music, Adele laughed and said, ‘No’ – but that could have been a nervous reaction.

The recording could have stalled last year as it was in November 2011 that Adele underwent throat surgery in America for a haemorrhaged vocal chord.

Then in April 2012, Adele told French radio station NRJ that she will have a new single out by the end of this year, but that an album was still two years away.

Releasing a one-off single, the Bond theme, would clearly fit that schedule.

Will Adele Need Artificial Vocal Chords?

August 24, 2012

Divabetic SummerA team of medical experts is on the verge of  creating artificial vocal cords, which would not only benefit singers, but also cancer patients and those who have lost their voices to aging or disease.

A group of patients, including famous singers such as Steven Tyler, Julie Andrews and Roger Daltrey, have even gone so far as to create a non-profit fundraising organization called The Voice Health Institute, founded in Boston in 2003, which supports the development of the artificial cords.

Steven Zeitels, one of the most renowned vocal surgeons in the world and one of the leading researchers on the project told HuffPost that the cords are made of a “highly elastic gel,” which flutters just like healthy vocal cords do. He said earlier tests have been successful and that his team could begin trials on cancer patients as early as next year.

“Soon, this could just be an office procedure,” Zeitels predicted. “An injection. You’d be done in 15 minutes.”

It may still be a few years before artificial cords can help singers. Repairing a hoarse voice damaged by years of overuse is much easier than repairing the voice of a belting singer with a multi-octave range, Zeitels said. But as the technology of the cords improves, they will be able to stretch further and work harder.

“Once you prove a human being can be restored, then this will become such a valuable tool to society,” said Zeitels. “This will take lost voices and everything they would have done with their voice, and let them recontribute again.”

How Adele Managed To Hide Her Pregnancy

July 16, 2012

Divabetic SummerBritish superstar, Adele surprised fans when she revealed that she’s pregnant; they got a double dose of shock when reports revealed that she’ll give birth in just two months.

How did Adele manage to keep her baby news hidden for the last seven months?

The 24-year-old has recently been spotted out and about — even making public appearances — but has slyly avoided press and dodged photographers.

When the singer attended the Ivor Novello Awards in May, she was almost five months pregnant, a time when many expectant moms start to show. But the Someone Like You star managed to hide her and boyfriend Simon Konecki’s happy news by sneaking into the awards late, wearing loose clothing, and refusing to pose for pictures or talk to the media.

Adele’s very near due date also means the singer was actually pregnant when she performed at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Now Adele‘s estranged father has reached out to the soul star after learning she is pregnant, insisting he wants “more than anything” to be part of her life as she becomes a mother.

The Grammy-winning singer’s dad Mark Evans, who split from Adele’s mother Penny when the star was just three years old, heard the news from his own mother and he has now urged his daughter to consider a reconciliation.

Unfortunately Evans will have a hard time convincing Adele to reconcile – she previously admitted she was angry at her estranged father for airing his heart ache in the press.

She told British Vogue magazine, “It blows my mind. ‘I love her so much.’ Really? Why are you telling me that through a newspaper? If I ever see him I will spit in his face”.

What are you and your family eating this summer? The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic talks to everyday people about their healthy appetites at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA.

Adele Admits To Spanx Addiction

June 5, 2012

Adele performed live for the TV special“Adele Live in London”  and sat down with Today anchor Matt Lauer for an exclusive interview.

The 24-year-old songbird talked about taking home six awards at this years Grammys, and even discussed her ensemble from the big night. Adele admited to Matt that she wore FOUR pairs of Spanx underneath. FOUR. One, two, three, FOUR.

Don’t get me wrong, We love a good pair of Spanx or Lipo In A Box - the way that they smooth everything over and make your tush looked toned — it’s a dream. However, four pairs? Under ONE dress? Don’t you think that’s a tad bit excessive?

I mean, Kudos to Adele. To be real, she looked fab that night — and the plethora of Spanx did get the singer a lot of press for a possible “slim down.”

Adele Fires Up Rumors She’s Taking a 5 Year Break

February 16, 2012

After winning six Grammy Awards and selling million of albums worldwide, Adele stunned the music industry by suggesting she is about to take the next five years off.

The 23-year-old,  said that she wants a break from her career to concentrate on her relationship.

“I am f—— off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy,” she said when asked about her future.

Adele‘s expressed desire for a break came as a particular shock to her fans, considering she used the Grammy Awards to stage a return performance after having surgery on her vocal chords last year to remove polyps.

“I’ve never fully appreciated the things that I’ve achieved until now,” she said. “In fact, my entire life has changed in the last 10 weeks. I’ve never been so happy, and I love it.”
