Mr. Divabetic’s Worst Dressed List at Oscars 2013

March 1, 2013
Divabetic Worst Dressed

Divabetic Worst Dressed

In a year that is being described as one of the worst years for Oscars fashion, pastel shades, natural makeup and minimal jewelry triumphed.

Move over, Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayek and Fan Bingbing because Mr. Divabetic’s Worst Dressed Award at the 2013 Oscars goes to the loveable Melissa McCarthy. Her custom David Meister Signature gown and its overabundance of army barracks gray-colored silk jersey was awful. The unflattering jersey material, draped in all the wrong places and awkward jeweled embellishments aren’t working in her favor. And her Dynasty overly-teased hair (does she have an endorsement with Aqua Net?) isn’t helping matters.

Helena Bonham Carter looks as if she just escaped from an attic and is playing dress-up with Miss Havisham’s discards. She keeps that bad fashion mojo going with this Vivienne Westwood frock.

Nicole Kidman looks like she’s filming a one-woman sequel to Moulin Rouge in her Balenciaga gown. Lately, she’s had a multitude of misses on the red carpet.

Jane Fonda Looks AMAZING at Oscars!

February 25, 2013

jane-fonda-oscars-red-carpet-2013Aerobics clearly works! If you had any doubts, just look at Jane Fonda. Wow!

The 75-year-old acting legend, who’s garnered two Oscars in her 50-year career, flaunted her incredible figure in a canary yellow Versace gown at the Academy Awards Sunday.

The Monster-in-Law star accessorised her bedazzled sunny frock with Chopard jewels, Jimmy Choo ‘Ingrid’ sandals and a matching ‘Claire’ clutch as she posed outside the Dolby Theatre.

Thanks to her strict yoga regime, Jane still exuded the same glamorous appeal that shot her to fame in Barbarella back in 1968.

The seven-time Oscar nominee was at the star-studded ceremony to present the best director statue alongside Michael Douglas.

Fonda took to her Twitter to share her exciting backstage experience with her 528,000 followers, where she was photographed with set designer Derek Mclane.

Sally Field’s Never Too Old For What?

February 9, 2013
Diva Inspiration Sally Field

Diva Inspiration Sally Field

Divabetic’s February Diva Inspiration, Sally Field dropped by “Late Show with David Letterman” and talked about how hard it was for her to get cast as Mary Todd Lincoln in the big-screen film “Lincoln.” Steven Spielberg had originally asked her to take the part way back in 2005, but it took years to get the screenplay together.

When they cast Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln, though, Spielberg started to have reservations about Field as Mary Todd. Not that he didn’t think she could portray the first lady well, he just worried about Field and Day-Lewis together.

Apparently, Mary Todd Lincoln was not a cougar!

“I’m ten years older than Daniel, and Mary was ten years younger than Lincoln,” Field said. “And Steven really had a right to say, ‘I don’t see the two of you together.’” And apparently, he did say that. But Field said she had a simple response for him. “Well, you’re wrong,” she told him. And then she proved it.

The two worked so well together that Spielberg cast her in the role. It was clearly the right choice, too. Both Field and Day-Lewis are up for Oscars for their performances, along with countless other awards nominations for both of them, Spielberg and the film.

Tune in to February’s upcoming free Diabetes Roundtable “LIVE from the  RED CARPET SPECIAL” podcast is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 6 – 7 PM, EST. Sally Field  inspires Divabetic’s one hour whirlwind of diabetes wellness with a heaping teaspoon of glamour and style. ‘I’m On The Red Carpet’ poem by Lorraine Brooks

February 6, 2013
I'm On The Red Carpet

I’m On The Red Carpet

The happy healthcare, Mr. Divabetic wants to help every woman living to makeover her diabetes and feel beautiful.

He’s assembled an all-star line-up of friendly diabetes educators, authors, poets, celebrity photographers and beauty/fashion experts for Divabetic’s upcoming free Diabetes Roundtable “LIVE ON THE RED CARPET SPECIAL” podcast scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 6 – 7 PM, EST.

Our favorite ‘divabetic’ poet, Lorraine Brooks wrote a special poem, “I’m On The Red Carpet” for this podcast to encourage women living with diabetes to GLAM MORE, FEAR LESS!

I’m on the red carpet

And no one knows where

I’ve hidden my insulin pump.

My slithery dress

Has a pocket in there

So you cannot see the lump.

And here in my bag

I have all that i need

Just in case of any reaction

My glucagon pen

Some raisins and seeds

Cause i don’t want to miss Hugh Jackman!

I wonder if I will

Get a chance to say

Hello to Robert De Niro

And right over there

Dressed in cool charcoal grey

Is Sally Field, one of my heroes.

I can’t wait to go

To the Governors Ball

And taste Wolfgang Puck’s appetizers

And then when I bolus

To cover it all

No one will be any the wiser!

Because I am prepared

For anything now

Diabetes doesn’t stop this diva

I’m getting ready

To take MY bow

Because I’ve got OSCAR FEVAH!

Sally Field, the two-time Oscar winner who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln in the film, Lincoln, inspires Divabetic’s one hour whirlwind of diabetes wellness with a heaping teaspoon of glamour and style.

Which Oscar Luncheon’s Red Carpet Fashions Would You ‘Lend, Buy or Burn?’

February 5, 2013
Lend, Buy or Burn! Game

Lend, Buy or Burn! Game

The traditional Academy Awards Nominees luncheon was held yesterday in  Hollywood, with more than 160 Oscar contenders including Ben Affleck,  Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and nine-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis.

Since the nominees’ chances of losing are much greater than their chance of winning – what does it really mean to ‘lose or fail’ in such a public forum?

“Because you’ve failed at something — doesn’t make you a failure.” says Oprah Winfrey.

I agree. I think that an Oscar nomination can boost a performer’s confidence to keep challenging themselves at their art, no matter what the results.

With two weeks to go, the annual lunch is is a chance to put aside rivalries and discuss the important things – such as what to wear for the ceremony.  Have fun with the Red Carpet fashions and play “LEND, BUY or BURN!” Fashion Game. Look at these 3 Red Carpet dresses and decide:

1. Which dress you would LEND to a friend

2. Which dress you would BUY for yourself

3. Which dress you would BURN with a match?!

Whether you look your best, or look like a mess on the Red Carpet – you are a winner for going after your dreams. GLAM MORE, FEAR LESS

Don’t miss our upcoming free Diabetes Roundtable “LIVE ON THE RED CARPET SPECIAL” podcast is scheduled for next Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 6 – 7 PM, EST.

Who Buys A Dress for the Oscars!!!!

January 11, 2013
Second Hand Rose

Second Hand Rose

Sally Field, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Lincoln, admits she once bought her own dress for the Oscars.

“When I won my Oscars (for Norma Rae and Places in the Heart) in the ’80s, I went to a store and bought a dress. Paid for. That was it! This has all changed. In such a huge way. I have these wonderful designers that I go, what? He wants to make a dress for me, and he wants to make a dress for me? I’m overwhelmed. I feel like a kid.”

But first, has she figured out her next project? “No! I’m sure I’m going to do the nextSpider-Man, because I was in the first one that they did,” she says.” I love my darling Andrew (Garfield) and Marc Webb.” But, (producers, take note) she’s still on the lookout for a Broadway play. “I’ve been looking like mad for that play. That’s what I’d really like to do.”

Oscar 2013 Nominated Workouts

January 10, 2013
Academy Awards 2013

Academy Awards 2013

It’s time to put down the popcorn and pick up the hand weights! The Oscar nominees are out. This morning in Los Angeles, Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the nominees of the 85th Academy Awards.MacFarlane started off with a joke: “If you don’t know who I am just pretend I’m Donny Osmond.” He also bantered with Stone, the star of “Gangster Squad,” calling her the Meryl Streep of her generation.

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic teams ups with fitness expert, Katherine ‘Iron Kat’ Adamenko to present  quick and easy workout routines inspired by some Academy Awards nominated films.
Like to watch films but don’t like to exercise?!! Why not try a quick fitness intermission with our ‘Movie Girl Workout’ the next time you’re watching a DVD?   Doing things to make your core stable like our ‘Marilyn-inspired twists’ is very good for your back and waistline, but what you do not need is six-pack abs. There’s no functional  reason to work for that. If you want to look good, that may have its place, but if you want a healthy back and healthy core, you try and work the muscles all around the spine and that does not require a lot of effort. Need more inspiration to live like a diva? Angelina Has A Leg Up On Diabetes Awareness

March 2, 2012

I like to think Angelina Jolie’s ‘Strike A Pose’ moment at the Oscars was intended to help raise awareness for diabetes health-related complications prevention such as amputation. In a matter of seconds, her legs became showstoppers. Don’t take your legs for granted if you’re living with diabetes.  Let Angelina’s great pair of legs inspire you to ‘keep your feet’ by practicing proper diabetes management with a healthy diet, regular exercise, blood sugar monitoring and adherence to a prescribed medication regimen.

Proper foot care will help prevent problems with your feet and ensure prompt medical care when problems occur. Tips for proper foot care include the following:

  1. Inspect your feet daily. Check your feet once a day for blisters, cuts, cracks, sores, redness, tenderness or swelling. If you have trouble reaching your feet, use a hand mirror to see the bottoms of your feet, place the mirror on the floor if it’s too difficult to hold, or ask someone to help you.
  2. Wash your feet daily. Wash your feet in lukewarm water once a day. Dry them gently, especially between the toes. Use a pumice stone to gently rub the skin where calluses easily form. Sprinkle talcum powder or cornstarch between your toes to keep the skin dry. Use a moisturizing cream or lotion on the tops and bottoms of your feet to keep the skin soft.
  3. Don’t remove calluses or other foot lesions yourself. To avoid injury to your skin, don’t use a nail file, nail clipper or scissors on calluses, corns, bunions or warts. Don’t use chemical wart removers. See your doctor or foot specialist (podiatrist) for removal of any of these lesions.
  4. Trim your toenails carefully. Trim your nails straight across. Carefully file sharp ends with an emery board. Ask for assistance from a caregiver if you are unable to trim your nails yourself.
  5. Don’t go barefoot. To prevent injury to your feet, don’t go barefoot, even around the house.
  6. Wear clean, dry socks. Wear socks made of fibers that pull (wick) sweat away from your skin, such as cotton and special acrylic fibers — not nylon. Avoid socks with tight elastic bands that reduce circulation, as well as thick bulky socks that often fit poorly and irritate your skin.
  7. Buy shoes that fit properly. Buy comfortable shoes that do not fit tightly and that provide support and cushioning for the heel, arch and ball of the foot. Avoid high heels or narrow shoes that crowd your toes. If one foot is bigger than the other, buy shoes in the larger size. Your doctor may recommend specially designed shoes (orthopedic shoes) that fit the exact shape of your feet, cushion your feet and evenly distribute weight on your feet.
  8. Don’t smoke. Smoking impairs circulation and reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood. These circulatory problems can result in more severe wounds and poor healing. Talk to your doctor if you need help to quit smoking.
  9. Schedule regular foot checkups. Your doctor or podiatrist can inspect your feet for early signs of nerve damage, poor circulation or other foot problems. Schedule foot exams at least once a year or more often if recommended by your doctor.

How Emma Stone Got Her Red Carpet Body

February 29, 2012

We couldn’t help but notice how great Emma Stone looked in her Giambattista Valli and Chanel gowns at Sunday night’s Oscars. We asked her personal trainer, Armando Alarcon, about her routine — and how you can emulate it without the hefty trainer’s fee.

First: You’ll look leaner if you have the proper posture
Everyone has problem areas that affect their overall posture. Identify these and bring the body back to its original state before working on it more. One common problem occurs when your chest pulls you forward and your back doesn’t have the strength to hold the shoulders back, rounding the shoulders and causing a squatted forward lean of the head. You need to focus on working the back muscles; Pilates is great for this. Giving your posture a little TLC also flattens out the stomach and brings the chest and the shoulders back, down and correctly aligned with the head.

Make use of your whole body
Never single out one exercise. Full-body training will make you use more muscle and burn calories.  “The body does not move as one single entity,” says Alarcon. “Constantly change your routine with a mix of Pilates, basic weight-lifting, yoga and plyometrics so that the body changes as a whole rather than one particular muscle group.”

Weights don’t need to weigh you down
The celebs use weights — well, light ones.

“Adding five-pound ankle or arm weights to any exercise is hard as heck but causes more of a burn,” Alarcon says. “It maximizes the effort and shortens the time needed to gain the maximum amount of muscle. You can go from doing 20 reps to 10-15 and get the exact same results.”

If it’s bad, don’t eat it
Alarcon doesn’t believe in diets. Allow yourself to eat what you want to eat or you will crash. His food rules are simple: If you think it’s bad, it probably is, so don’t eat it. If you think it’s too much, then don’t eat it all.

“Emma is the perfect example of someone who controls her eating very well,” Alarcon says. “She doesn’t go on diets and does indulge once in a while; but overall, she eats very little meat and fatty foods and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. And she does Pilates for tone.”
