‘Get Into The Groove’ with Group Exercise

December 31, 2011

Experts agree that group exercise can be beneficial. “Working out in a group provides support, accountability, and structure,” says Lynne Vaughan, Chief Innovation Officer of the national YMCA. “People don’t want to let their buddy or group down, which is terrific in terms of adherence to an exercise routine.”

I totally agree! This past year I stayed in shape by taking several group exercise classes a week. I think making a New Year’s Resolution to join a group exercise class is a sure-fire way to stay in shape.

Sure, at times I felt like a total idiot because I couldn’t get the steps as quickly as everyone else in a class but I didn’t let that stop me. I used it to motivate me to going to class!

I also made a lot of new friends. Group classes help me fit in a full body workout in a set timeframe.

Group exercise classes vary by as much as the different fitness instructors who teach them. So try them all and mix them up. Variety really does create the best balance.

Be ‘Lady GymGym’ in Step-tember

September 7, 2011

Diva TalkRadio: Lady Gym Gym

Although you might not like her music, you still can’t help but enjoy the character Lady GaGa has created. She makes music fun. And this Step-tember I feel she can inspire you to have more “fun” with your fitness wardrobe -  without jumping of an egg!

Think about it. Most of us throw on any old random t-shirt when we head to the gym then we get there to find ourselves staring at our reflection in a group fitness class for an hour. Yikes! Looking at yourself in an awful outfit, with uncombed hair and sweating like a farm animal is no way to stay motivated. Why not activate your inner ‘Lady GymGym’ and “get fitter with glitter!?”

Adding some excitement to your fitness routine doesn’t have to mean flying from a trapeze but it could mean changing your wardrobe. Treat yourself to a pair of sexy velvet sweats, wear jewelry, bedazzle your  favorite t-shirt or buy some new sneakers. Looking fabulous at the gym doesn’t have to cost a fortune either. Converse makes it easy – Women’s Converse One Star Sequin sneakers are $35.00 available at Target.
