Taylor’s Swift’s Beauty Secret!

September 11, 2012

Divabetic SummerIt is no secret that Divabetic’s Diva Inspiration for September, superstar Taylor Swift favors the color Red. She has graced many red carpets, magazine covers, and most recently her upcoming album cover (also named “Red”) with beautiful bright red lips. This Cover girl has the right idea when it comes to shades for lipstick. We asked fabulous  professional makeup artist, Kiauna Hunt, owner of Diva Status (www.divastatus.com) , why  the color red remains a classic.

“Red can be paired with various styles from Biker Grunge to Grammy Award Red Carpet and still looks great doing both! As a makeup artist, Red is a staple color in my lipstick palatte because it brightens and whitens the smile of the person who’s wearing it and demands attention to the person that is viewing your lips, says Kiauna, who is featured on this month’s Diabetes Roundtable podcast in our ’Makeover in a Minute’ segment.

makeup artist, Kiauan Hunt “The color red also increases enthusiasm and provides a sense of protection from fear and anxiety. See how a little lipstick can change your outlook and in this case provide a “pick me up” to others as well? You don’t have to be a Covergirl to start brightening up your makeup look,” she adds.

Need a beauty boost? Here are Kiauna Hunt‘s  diva advice to help you find a red that works well for your skin tone:

If you have fair skin go for a red with a blue or brown-undertone.

Medium-to-dark skin go with deeper reds, with brown undertones.

Dark skin go for reds with pinkish or orange undertones.

Real-life Diva, TayrnAnd if you’re like September Diabetes Roundtable‘s real-life diva special guest, Tayrn, from Boston, MA and  you have red hair always choose a shade brighter than your hair and kick the old wives tale that “redheads can’t wear red” to the curb.

With any look, always remember to use a liner, which should be the same color as your lipstick or a shade lighter. Now go out and find the shade that works for you and show the world your award-winning smile that will give people something to sing about!

Summer Beauty’s Survival Tip: Think PInk!

August 20, 2012

Divabetic SummerThe sensational Emma Stone shows off why pink is the hottest lipstick this season from the boardwalk to Broadway. Hot pink lips are one of Hollywood’s hottest trends this summer blockbuster season and here’s how to make it work: “Lip primer will create an even base to ensure that the lip color doesn’t become diluted,” says Kidd. To keep color in place, line lips with a transparent pencil, and then apply your pink of choice.

“The thing I love about bright pink lips is that they’re ultra-feminine, but very graphic and modern at the same time,” says makeup artist Rachel Goodwin, who has worked with Emma Stone. Adjust the shade you choose based on your skin-tone—and in this case, opposites attract. If you have a warm complexion like Olivia Munn, opt for a cooler pink. If your skin is cool like Gwen Stefani, a warmer, redder pink will work best. “Layering a hot pink lip stain under your lipstick will help it last all day,” Goodwin adds.

Makeover In A Minute: The Green Scene for Spring

March 23, 2012

Divabetic: Makeover In A MinuteDiva TalkRadio celebrity makeup artist and Diva Status Makeup founder, Kiauna Hunt, says “this spring you don’t need the luck of the Irish to pull off a new look. As the weather breaks and nature’s beauty begins to blossom, try a splash of green on your lids paired with a neutral lip to leave them green with envy.”

On our Diva TalkRadio’s March podcast, Kiauna explains to our special guest diva, Stacey from Queens, NY, how to make green eyeshadow showcase her assets during our popular ‘Makeover In A Minute’ segment.

Kiauna Hunt says,” A light sheer green will be perfect for the office or a deeper green for a night on the town.”

Simply apply green eyeshadow along the lid and just over the crease from inside corner to outside corner. Smudge the color a bit along the lower lash line and voilà! A look that’s guaranteed to leave a diva like yourself with a few “green eyed monsters”!

Stacey, received a green eye shadow from the new Diva Status Spring/Summer collection called “Shamrock”.

Go a step further in being “Green” by purchasing products with packaging that gives back to mother earth.  Diva Status Spring/Summer Collection has a number of beautiful greens that compliment a number of skin tones.

3 Steps to Having a Sexy Smile & Truly Kissable Lips

February 15, 2012

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic asked New York-based makeup artist, Sue Perez  to share her beauty secrets for getting a sexy pout on Diva Talk Radio’s Valentine’s Day Special.  Our real-life diva, Carole from Philadelphia, loved them so much,  we wanted to share Sue’s  3 steps to having a sexy smile and truly kissable lips with you!

1.Prep- Mix a little olive oil and sugar together in a cup. I generally use 1/4 teaspoon of oil to 1 tablespoon of sugar. Then gently rub the mixture over your lips with your fingertip. This is a wonderful way to scrub away dryness and it naturally plumps your lips!

2.Whiten- An excellent 100% natural way to whiten teeth is from fruits that contain citric acid, like lemons and grapefruits. Just eat some grapefruits or enjoy the lemons after your iced tea and you can naturally whiten your teeth. This really works!

3. Brighten- Lip color is the way to brighten your smile and the most flattering shades are cool tones like rose, berries, plums and red!  A great tip is using lipliner after you’ve applied your lipstick or gloss. It evens out the edges and gives you a more natural fullness.

Adele’s Amazing Eye Makeup Secrets from the Grammys

February 15, 2012

Divabetic: Adele's Amazing Eye Makeup

Makeup artists around the world were swooning over Adele‘s makeup at the Grammys. Her  eyes were absolutely GLAM MORE, FEAR LESS worthy. Adele’s look was a master class in retro glamour with touches of contemporary edginess in the glittery talons and soft but stand-out brows.

Her look is wearable for women of all ages too because it’s soft and not porcelain-doll-perfect – there are no hard-drawn brows, beauty spots or lip-lines here.

How to do it?

First, grab your liquid liner. Adele‘s eyes were a smokey masterpiece on Sunday night, but they still had definition achieved with a cat’s flick of eye liner over silver-grey shadow and a double layer of false lashes. Adele‘s makeup artist traced the liner from the inner corners of her eyes to the outer ones, crescendo-ing the thickness of the liner at the ends and giving them a little upwards flick. Lash density was also built in the outer corners: the makeup artist amplified this area to lift Adele‘s eyes.

This is a glamourous makeup look that takes time – it’s fiddly, but it’s worth the attention to detail because it’s the kind of timeless makeup that makes a face truly memorable. You go, diva!
