If you are guility of watching “Say Yes to the Dress,” you will have had a glimpse into the wedding dress world. This is an entirely different place than the regular clothing world. This world contains superlatives and notions such as “the most special day of your life”, “since you were a little girl”, “everyone is watching”, “you can never do this over” and “everything must be perfect on this day, including you”.
All of the stress of finidng the right dress on top of everything else can take the joy out of any bride. How can anyone function successfully under this amount of pressure? Ease your wedding worries with these simple tips:
Remember YOU. This day and this dress are yours. Take your first step to setting boundaries in your new life with your dress choice. Also remember what looks good in a magazine may not work for you.
No self-punishment! Remember you want to look you best on your wedding day not like some over-bleached, burnt, and starving version of yourself. Save the crash diets, body wraps, celery sticks, tanning beds, and spray tans for another time.
If you think managing your diabetes your Wedding Day might be tricky, image what it’s like if you’re planning to also snowboard down the aisle too!

We’ve all heard of the expression, “something borrowed, something blue.” I’d like to add to that and say stick with something that’s tried and true on your wedding day. Just like your wedding day is not the day to try new makeup, a new hairstyle or a new self-tanner – it is not the day to start experimenting with your diabetes self-care. Here’s some diva-licious advice to help you to make sure my diabetes doesn’t get in the way of the biggest day of your life.
Worry-Free Diabetes Wedding Tip #3: If you want steady and predictable blood sugars from the walk down the aisle to your waves goodbye getting into the limo make sure to have a good pre-wedding meal. This is not the time to skip breakfast nor indulge yourself with a big breakfast with extra helpings of biscuits and gravy. Instead enjoy a low carb meal and plan to snack throughout the day.
What happens to Julia Roberts on her wedding day in the film, “Steel Magnolias” is sooooo ‘80‘s! (Just like her jumbo-size hairdo) Today, your wedding can be ‘diabetes’ drama free.

Here’s some diva-licious to help you to make sure my diabetes doesn’t get in the way of the biggest day of your life.
Worry-Free Diabetes Wedding Tip #2: Appoint a diabetes helpmate for the day of your wedding. This person could be a family member (sister, aunt, cousin) or good friend. Try to avoid picking someone who will be as equally involved in the wedding as you like your maid of honor or mother. Their task is to remind you to check your blood sugars at various times throughout the day (before you take photos). If you let someone else focus on YOU then you’ll be able to relax and enjoy on your big day.

Here’s some diva-licious advice to help you to make sure my diabetes doesn’t get in the way of the biggest day of your life.
Worry-Free Diabetes Wedding Day Tip #1: Stage a blood sugar dress rehearsal. Before the day of your wedding, recreate your planned schedule. On your wedding day, do you plan to be working out? Waking earlier than normal for hair/makeup? How late do you plan on eating at the reception? Try to follow a basic outline from bridal pampering to ‘party hardy’ at your reception. Most experts recommend that you recreate your planned schedule at least twice.

My 11-year-old son likes treats. There is a container of red licorice on the table I have to resist whenever I enter the kitchen to grab an apple. They are just a little on the […]
