Nicki Minaj says that her controversial Grammy Awards performance was actually a scene from a movie she’s written. (That’s one movie we pray will never be produced!)
The rapper arrived at the Grammys wearing an awful red Versace nun’s habit encrusted with the label’s Medusa icon, accompanied by a man dressed as the Pope. What was Donatella Versace thinking?!!! She then performed her tracks ‘Roman’s Holiday’ and ‘Roman’s Revenge’ in a scene which included an exorcism.
Speaking about her performance, Nicki Minaj said: “You know how people write plays and movies? That’s what I did. I wrote that and I gave the world a tiny little preview of what was to come. And so I have to perform it on the set in which it would be in the movie, right?”
The singer also said that she unclear why her performance had drawn so much anger, with the Catholic League among those who criticized her, calling her show “tasteless and disrespectful to the Catholic Church.”
Asked if she could understand the reaction the show had caused, she replied: “I don’t know, what is the big issue?”
Really?!!! C’mon, Nicki. What don’t you think was ‘disrespectful’ in your show is what we want to know!
Personally, I feel her choices in costumes, scenery and staging were too obvious. It was comical not creative like the Broadway musical, Dracula, which closed in less than a week! That said, I applaud her for taking on the subject manner in her song.
Nicki Minaj plans to release her new album ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ on April 3.
