Superbowl Showdown: Chicken Wings vs. Pigs N’ A Blanket

January 5, 2012

Divabetic: Food Aisle Face-Off

Diva TalkRadio’s upcoming popular Food Aisle Face-Off segment features a SuperBowl-inspired Showdown between two half-time treats: Chicken Wings and Pigs N’  A Blanket.

We’ll be asking Foodie Judge Judi Wilcox, RD, CDE which one is the better option?

This could be a difficult decision because …. when you eat Chicken Wings you can’t avoid the skin and the truth is that the skin is what’s terrible for you! There’s going to be plenty of fat on your chicken wings under the skin whether you fry your wings or not,. Plus when you’re preparing chicken wings you usually add salt, which elevates your sodium, and then add hot sauce which has more sodium, and preservatives.

Pigs n’ a blanket are hot dogs rolled up in a crescent roll without or with cheese. Many people believe that hot dogs, like cigarettes, should come with a warning label that helps consumers understand the health risk. Additionally, these bite-size snacks are packed with fat and calories.

This rumble between two football game favorites promises to be quiet interesting. Tune into Diva TalkRadio hosted by by the happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic on Tuesday, January 10, 6 – 6:30 PM, EST. to find out the answer to our Superbowl Showdown.  Enjoy over 30 Diva TalkRadio show are available for free on i-tunes (search ‘Divabetic’) and at: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/divatalkradio1.

Fleetwood Mac’s “Little Lies”: Diabetes Myth #10

November 14, 2011

In celebration of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Divabetic’s kicking to the curb all the common myths associated with diabetes. Of course, were going to do it with style! Fleetwood Mac’s song ”Little Lies” helps us to dispel DIABETES MYTH #10: People living with diabetes must eat a special diet.

FACT: No, pizza lovers aren’t destined to develop diabetes. The disease is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors. And the high level of sugar in someone’s bloodstream is not the same thing as the refined stuff you buy in bags from the supermarket. That said, being overweight can increase the risk for developing type 2 diabetes, and eating a lot of sugar can pack on the pounds. If your family has a history of diabetes, eating healthfully and exercising regularly is recommended to keep everyone’s weight in check. This is why our popular monthly podcast, Diva TalkRadio, features two segments on food to help you make better choices. Our ‘Dining Out With A Dietitian’ focuses on mastering the menu at your favorite restaurant and  ‘Food Aisle Face-Off’ aims to help you navigate the grocery store in a healthier way.
