Mr. DivabeticGLAM MORE FEAR LESS! The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic rolls out the red tomato carpet at Divabetic – Makeover Your Diabetes outreach event presented at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA with the support of the American Diabetes Association and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Divabetic – Makeover Your Diabetes is a free and fabulous diabetes outreach event that mixes friendly diabetes education with free beauty and fashion services to boost women’s confidence in their ability to manager their daily self-care. Our goal is to make every woman feel more beautiful inside and out through the help of a team of certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians, and beauty and fashion experts. The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic presents an upbeat multi-media stage show featuring nutrition games, fitness demonstrations, expert advice, Nina Street Designs and Chinoo fashion shows and all-star showstopping performances from guests like Samuel Bonner aka ‘Michael Jackson’ to make learning about health and wellness entertaining.

Divabetic – Makeover Your Diabetes has been presented in 9 major cities with high incidence of diabetes (New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, Cleveland, Washington, DC, New Orleans, Atlanta and Los Angeles.)

Mr. Divabetic plays his nutrition game, Serve, Taste or Trash! with New Yorkers along the parade route to hilarious results. In the game, you’re given three choices of fruits and vegetables. You must decide which one you’d serve, which one you’d taste and which one you’d trash. Before you decide to “trash” a veggie for good, why not try to eat it raw? Raw veggies can be more appetizing than their cooked counterparts to people who aren’t crazy about vegetables. The flavors of raw veggies can be milder than those of cooked ones. And the texture is crispy, rather than mushy.

Sweet Potato is a Superhero in Africa

August 16, 2012

Divabetic SummerA revved-up sweet potato engineered to contain more vitamin A is a promising new tool in the fight against malnutrition in Africa.

Nature writes that HarvestPlus, which is funded by the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), cross-bred Africa’s white and yellow sweet potatoes to create an orange-toned variety rich in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the human body. The potato is also more tolerant to drought that either of its genetic parents.

HarvestPlus researchers distributed orange sweet potato vines to more than 10,000 farming families in Uganda. Results published last week in the Journal of Nutrition showed that households that grew the crop experienced excellent effect.

Vitamin A deficiency can lead to blindness, compromised immune systems and even death. HarvestPlus notes that up to 500,000 preschool children go blind from lack of vitamin A every year, two thirds of which die within months of losing their sight.

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic wants to help you overcome aversions to fruits and vegetables you think you don’t like, and even learn to love them with his new food game, Serve, Taste or Trash.
