Healthy Diet Advice with Attitude!

June 5, 2012

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic wants to inspire you to eat more fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with nutrients as well as fiber, which keep you feeling full longer and make you less likely to snack between meals. Slice a variety of fruits, like peaches, plums, nectarines, and various berries, to add to cold or cooked cereal or to top French toast, waffles, or pancakes instead of syrup. Try serving vegetables at the start of a meal with a low-fat dip to add flavor.

What Happens In Your Body When You Eat This …

February 9, 2012

Most of the time, we hear about avoiding processed foods because they’ll make us fat. But a new video of what happens in your body when you eat Top Ramen and Gatorade vs. homemade noodles and drinks gives us a whole new reason to avoid it: We can’t even digest it properly.

TEDxManhattan 2011 Fellow Stefani Bardin created a video showing  how our bodies react to processed and unprocessed food. Stefani is producing a body of work that explores the influence of corporate culture and industrial food production on our food system.  Her current project is working with
gastroenterologist Dr. Braden Kuo at Harvard University.

Diet Divas Be Wary of 100-Calorie Snack Pack Attack!

January 24, 2012

Divabetic: Diet Divas

Lately, I’ve seen 100 calorie snack packs for yogurt, chips, and a host of other foods  in my local grocery store. They seem to be marketed primarily to ‘diet divas’ aka women on a diet or to use as a handy lunch box stuffer or after-school snack for your kids.

For the most part the 100 calorie snack packs are filled with stuff that’s not that healthy. These portion friendly snacks tend to be high in refined carbohydrates and low in fiber so they won’t control your hunger for long. And any nutritionist worth their weight in mangos, would agree that whole foods don’t come in 100 calorie snack packs.
