Vogue’s New Health Initiative – Underweight Models Are OUT!

May 16, 2012

British Vogue launched a brand-new Health Initiative across 19 editions of Vogue. The initiative aims to address the problem of unhealthy body image and behaviors amongst models, particularly those who pose for magazines.

The new initiative includes a six-point pledge agreed upon by all 19 Vogueeditors-in-chief. According to the Telegraph, these include the following:

* We will not knowingly work with models under the age of 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder. We will work with models who, in our view, are healthy and help to promote a healthy body image* We will ask agents not to knowingly send us underage girls and casting directors to check IDs when casting shoots, shows and campaigns.

* We encourage designers to consider the consequences of unrealistically small sample sizes of their clothing, which limits the range of women who can be photographed in their clothes, and encourages the use of extremely thin models.

As British Vogue notes, the stated goals of the initiative hew closely to those of theCFDA’s Health Guidelines, which include a minimum age requirement (16 years) and a commitment to preventing eating disorders through education.

The practical innovation of Vogue‘s Health Initiative, however, is a focus on magazines rather than the runway. The past efforts of the CFDA (and Britain’s British Fashion Council) were only effective to the point of addressing problems during Fashion Week. With Vogue‘s new move, models working year-round in photo spreads will meet the same requirements — and get the same help.

It also extends the impact on viewers, as arguably more women read fashion magazines than watch runway shows.

Of course, as long as Photoshop exists, those over-16, non-anorexic models could still be made to look younger and skinnier than they really are. Perhaps a pledge to limit Photoshop, made by Glamour and other magazines, will be next on Vogue‘s agenda?

Is Megan Fox ‘Fatter’ or ‘Fitter’?

September 19, 2011

Divabetic: Megan Fox

Megan Fox has revealed her slender figure was the result of  a strict vegan diet, which she has now ditched after losing too much weight. The 25-year-old actress was shocked into giving up her vegan diet when she realized how much weight she had lost.

In Amica magazine, she said: ‘For a year and a half, until about four months ago, I followed a strict vegan diet based on raw fruits and vegetables, no bread, sugar and coffee. But I had lost too much weight. So now I eat a bit of everything. And I train three times a week doing circuit training with my trainer Harley Pasternak.’”

Pasternak  explained what he and Megan do to help maintain her curves, ’Megan wants her body to reflect who she is. She looks awesome. She’s natural, softly spoken and her personality shines through her fantastic shape. Megan’s also lucky because her husband Brian Austin Green follows the same workout routine. They share the same enthusiasm for a healthy lifestyle which is fantastic too.’

Miss South Carolina: Chubby Teen Becomes Beauty Queen

July 17, 2011

Diva TalkRadio: Chubby Teen To Beauty Queen

While the bikini-clad beauty queens around her mindlessly preach world peace, one Miss America hopeful hopes her message will carry a bit more weight.

Bree Boyce, a 22-year-old singer from South Carolina, is this year’s surprise Miss America hopeful after she lost an incredible 110lbs to win her state contest.

Stunning photographs chart her remarkable transformation – from an overweight and awkward teenager to a self-confident and charming young woman, with a body which looks toned and healthy rather than starved. You go, girl.We love this diva!!!

Miss Boyce, who won the Miss South Carolina crown will now compete for the Miss America title in Las Vegas in January, says she is in the running to inspire other heavy teenagers to eat more healthily. ’My goal in life is to inspire all ages to become healthy through good eating habits, exercise, and believing in Yourself. You have the Power to Change Your Life,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

‘I look forward to sharing my message with people. I’m lucky enough to be meeting people through speaking engagements, school visits, and through various charity events.’

She says she does not believe in dieting, because she has failed trying so many, but instead views her body as a car, which requires the right fuel to run efficiently.

‘I felt I couldn’t have that piece of chocolate cake that I enjoy so much because I am on a diet. If I go about every day and eat the right foods and I say that chocolate cake’s there, I’m not going to deprive myself. If I want the chocolate cake that much I’m going to eat it. It’s about not eating that chocolate cake every day on every hour… You have to have it in moderation.’
