Grammy Nominations 2013

It looks like the Grammys are going to be a lot of FUN to watch this year.

Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Kanye West top the 2013 Grammy nominations with six each, followed by the Black Keys and Miguel with five nods.

The indie-pop band, FUN., is riding high with nominations for record of the year and song of the year for producing and writing the single “We Are Young,” which they performed with singer Janelle Monae.  The band was also nominated for album of the year for their collection Some Nights, as well as the the prestigious best new artist award.

There was plenty of love for our favorite divas, like Kelly Clarkson, who scored four nominations; Taylor Swift, who received three nominations; and newcomer Carly Rae Jepsen, who earned two nods.

The biggest surprise was that One Direction and Justin Bieber were shut out!

The nominations for Record of The Year are: The Black Keys – “Lonely Boy,” Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger, “Fun. feat. Janelle Monae – “We Are Young”, Gotye feat. Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used to Know,”  Frank Ocean – “Thinkin Bout You, “  Taylor Swift – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

Kelly Clarkson & Jason Aldean Win Country Music Award

April 1, 2012

Kelly Clarkson & Jason Aldean perform ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay.’ This song just won the VOCAL EVENT OF THE YEAR at the 47th  Annual Academy of Country Music Awards tonight.

Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) Peformed By Glee

February 24, 2012

“What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger),” the second single from Kelly Clarkson‘s  Stronger, went No. 1 and stayed there for two weeks. It’s more impressive considering that 2012′s sales accomplishments have been all but earmarked for Adele.

Love this song!

Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson sing “Don’t You Wanna Stay” at Grammys

February 13, 2012

Here’s one of our favorite Grammy performances featuring  Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson “Dont You Wanna Stay.”

“Don’t You Wanna Stay” was met with generally favorable reviews by critics who considered the song as “a classic power ballad”. Critics also lauded the interesting combination between Jason Aldean‘s and Kelly Clarkson‘s voice.

“Don’t You Wanna Stay” was written by Andy Gibson, Paul Jenkins and Jason Sellers.  According to Sellers, they were at Jenkins’ house when they started composing the song. He explained, “We just wanted to write a love song. We had an idea of what we were targeting. We didn’t write it as a duet. We wrote it, and Andy thought about recording it. After we got the song written, we played it for Jason. Jason Aldean‘s idea for it was to make it a duet.”

Kelly Clarkson to Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl

February 3, 2012

Madonna won’t be the only pop star singing at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, although she will be one of the few with the luxury of picking her own repertoire.

Kelly Clarkson, the original American Idol, will turn her powerful pipes on the national anthem. Clarkson’s version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” is bound to emphasize the rocket’s red glare and the bombs bursting in air; she specializes in bringing the vocal fireworks.

She won’t be alone. The Indianapolis Children’s Choir will be joining  the former American Idol winner.

As for Clarkson herself, like most Super Bowl Anthem singers she has a long history of performing the Star-Spangled Banner at major events.

And just like everybody who has attempted “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a sporting event since Super Bowl XXV, Clarkson will be chasing Whitney Houston’s thunderous rendition — the gold standard for anthem singers.

Let’s just hope she remembers the words!!

Kelly Clarkson’s (What Doesn’t Kill You) Stronger Steals The Show

December 20, 2011

Last night, I heard this new Kelly Clarkson’s song for the first time  on ‘VH1’s Divas Celebrates Soul’ music special (hello, were Divabetic – it was required watching!!)

In our opinion, Kelly stole the show with her performance of “(What Doesn’t Kill You) Stronger,” I think she has another smash just waiting to explode.with the second single off the album, Stronger. The story is essentially a giant “It Gets Better/Can’t Hold Us Down” dance-off the world over. Everybody is getting stronger all over the place — and whether it’s an exercise class, the beach, or Times Square, it’s the perfect place to let loose and move on.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the rest of the ‘VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul’ show. Although Mary J. Blige, Sharon Jones, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Marsha Ambrosius, Mavis Staples, Martha Reeves, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Florence Welch, Estelle, Jessie J, Wanda Jackson, and Jill Scott performed, too many of our all-time favorite Soul Divas were missing such as Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross or Aretha Franklin. The next time,  someone’s producing a music special showcasing sounds of Memphis, Detroit, Philadelphia, London, and Chicago – please call Aretha!!!

Diva Of The Week: Kelly Clarkson – Mr. Know It All

November 29, 2011

Lately, it seems like every TV network has their own award show. Yes, I’ve been trying to watch as many as possible in an attempt to get up to speed on new music.

After sitting through several forgettable Award Show live performances, two artists stood out from the crowd.

Kelly Rowland’s  live performance of her song, ‘Motivation,’ really made me think twice about her as a solo artist! She was awesome! She sang, danced and seemed in total command of the stage – she was a diva!

Well, the other diva was born in the spotlight. She has somehow managed to stay on top of her game since she made her debut on ‘American Idol.’ Okay,  first I must admit I hate the dress but that’s where my hating stops cause Kelly Clarkson’s inspired live performance of ‘Mr. Know It All’ blew me away.  It was a new arrangement with lots of horns – so much fun! Her performance is why I love music.  Can’t wait to see her perform again – maybe it will be at Madison Square Garden in 2011!!

See it for yourself!!

AMAs 2011: Kelly Clarkson Goes ‘Newsies’

November 20, 2011

My favorite moment at this year’s American Music Awards was Kelly Clarkson performing her “Mr. Know It All,” giving the song a “Newsies”-like makover for the live presentation. Kelly Clarkson’s sparkling red  fish tail dress, deft mix of rock and vintage pop gave the song some old-school musical pizazz.

Moments later, Enrique Iglesias showcased his “I Like How It Feels,” a song full of stomping, hand-clapping beats, given an American club gloss courtesy of RedOne. Iglesias would have been better to stick with “I Like How It Feels” rather than switch into “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You),” which is more anonymous of a club hit, despite the latter getting a boost from Ludacris.

Earlier, Chris Brown once again showcased his impressive, Michael Jackson-inspired dance movies. Less impressive was his ballad crooning in “All Back.” On the award front, Nicki Minaj was named favorite rap/hip-hop artist, and Rihanna’s “Loud” won favorite soul/R&B album.
