The Key To Beautiful Blood Sugars

May 11, 2012

#beautifulbloodsugarsKeeping your cool while managing a random blood sugar low is all about attitude. A little self pampering can make a tough situation a little bit better.

First, apply the Rule of 15. If  your blood sugar gets too low, eat 15 grams of a carbohydrate-rich food (3 – 4 glucose tablets), wait 15 minutes, and test your blood sugar again. If it is still below 70, take another 15 grams of carbohydrates, wait another 15 minutes, and retest.

Its important not to overdo treatment because this could start a cycle of blood sugar levels rising and crashing. Since ‘just waiting’ can be excruciating fill the time before rechecking with a ‘beauty & the blood sugar’ type distraction: self tanning lotion.

Confused with which self tanning product to buy?

ELLE readers describe Lancôme Flash Bronzer as a “beach vacation in a bottle” and agree it “gives the best color year-round.”If you’ve been craving that come-hither Cote d’Azure tan, this ‘auto bronzante’ is the immediate answer without ever reaching for your passport.” Lancome’s formula featuring DHA and Natural Caramel Extract guarantees a gorgeous golden color in just 30 minutes, while antioxidant-rich pure Vitamin E helps keep free radicals from doing future damage, And moisturizing ingredients leave skin feeling satiny-soft and altogether irresistible.

Apply some  body lotion to dry areas such as knees, elbows and heels to prevent the tanner from saturating these areas. Start with your legs, doing an entire leg at a time. Apply the self tanner quickly but thoroughly, spreading in a circular motion to avoid streaking. Don’t worry if a little bit of the sunless tanner is visible on your skin. Instead, be careful not to miss any areas.
When you get near your ankles and feet, spread the self tanner from your legs onto your ankles and the tops of your feet. Use as little as possible in this area. Do not apply it directly to your toes, your heels, or the sides of your feet. After doing one leg, check the time. If it has been more than five minutes, wash both of your hands thoroughly using the nail scrub brush. Wash your nails, the palms of your hands, between your fingers, your knuckles, and please don’t forget your thumbs. Be sure you scrub the sides of your hands as well. After finishing both legs, repeat the hand scrubbing process. It should take you no more than five minutes to apply self tanner to both of your legs.
No sunless tanner currently available contains adequate sun screen, so you should use sunless tanners at night and sun screen during the day.

A little mirror time can go a long way to helping you stay on top of your self-care. Make sure and talk to your health care team if you are at risk for hypoglycemia and follow their advice for treatment, which will be tailored to your own situation. #beautifulbloodsugars

“Glam More, Fear Less” Divabetic® Models

Hi Catherine,
I am so thankful that I attended the “Divabetic” conference on September 27, 2008 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
It was a rainy day, but  I drove all the way to Maryland from New Jersey.  But, it was well worth the ride.  The conference was great!  I learned so much about diabetes and how to live with it on a day to day basis.
The conference emphasized the need for healthy eating, exercise, and a positive attitude in controlling diabetes!  The conference emphasized that “life is not over” just because you are diabetic……..
The conference encouraged me to exercise more, eat healthier, and take my medication as required so that I can live a long and healthy life.
I enjoyed the great attitudes and enthusiasm of all the staff!  Everyone was so nice and helpful!  I look forward to attending the event again, when it comes closer to New Jersey.
Also, please count me in on being a “DIVABETIC MODEL”!!!
See you in “2009”!!!
Love you all,
1st time “Divabetic” Attendee
PS–  Catherine, you are the BEST!  Thanks.
