Coral Lipsticks Are Summer’s Biggest Craze

July 5, 2012

Divabetic Wack or WowGet ready for a steamy summer! This year’s hottest lip color is Coral.

Coral lip colors range from a subtle orangey coral pink to a fiery hot red-orange that calls to mind the hues of summer sunset. These variations provide plenty of opportunity for you to test coral lip colors until you find the right fit.

Start with something simple like the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bolero, and work your way up to a flaming hot lip color like the Carmine color developed by Besame, the vintage-inspired makeup line used in Mad Men. No matter what coral color you settle on, keep the rest of your makeup simple, opting for shades of off-white and turquoise to complete your tropical look.

What will you be wearing for that upcoming warm weather getaway, beach vacation, or just in general this summer? Let Divabetic help you decide. The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic talks to Divabetic Image & Style Expert, Catherine Schuller about ‘Wack or Wow’ Summer Fashions at the 10th annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in New York City

MAC New ‘Hey, Sailor’ Collection Hits Retail Shores

May 26, 2012

MAC’s New Hey, Sailor Makeup limited edition collection featuring navy blue stripes across the packaging  is really nice and fresh looking. Very summery! Reminds me of sailing in Santa Cruz, CA.

Hey, Sailor! is a rather large 40 piece collection  featuring Lipglass, Lipstick, Nail Lacquer, Eye Shadow, Pro Longwear Lip Pencil, Powerpoint Eye Pencil, Pigment, Mascara, Bronzing Powder, Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder, High-Light Powder, Powder, Blush, Body Oil and Suntints!

MAC Hey, Sailor! Lipglasses ($15.50 for 0.10 oz.) include five shades: Blessedly Rich (rich pale coral), Cut Loose (white gold with pearl), Orange Tempera (pale peach), Riviera Life (bright tangerine), and Send Me Sailing (bright yellow red).  Orange Tempera is a repromote.

One beauty blogger declared Cut Loose and Orange Tempera as less stellar shades, so they bring down the overall rating. Riviera Life and Send Me Sailing were considered to be the best (think A-), while Blessedly Rich was good (think B+).

MAC Lipglass is vanilla-scented with no discernible taste. It’s packaged in a clear tube with a navy blue glossy cap and white striping around the tube. It comes with a doe-foot applicator. The consistency of Lipglass is very thick and sticky. MAC is one of the stickier glosses. You can wear anywhere from two to five hours, depending on the color and its level of pigmentation. Cut Loose,Riviera Life, and Send Me Sailing last at least two and a half, four, and four and a half hours respectively.

Nicki Minaj Feels Naked Without Her Lashes On!

Divabetic: Nicki Minaj Feels Naked without Lashes

Many a megastar will turn up for an interview clad in denim or a casual dress in order to appear more down-to-earth. Not Nicki Minaj. Thank goodness!!!

We love a diva who can make an entranace. At a recent interview to unveil Nicki Minaj’s M.A.C Viva Glam lipstick, the diminutive chart-topper dressed to impress. It’s hard to know where to look first: the shoulder-length blond wig dotted with pink leopard spots, the strappy peach-hued Hervé Léger dress, or the fox-fur-embellished Louboutin stilettos.

Nicki Minaj’s fondness for wackadoo fashion, Day-Glo makeup, and cartoonish wigs has established her, along with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, as one of the most flamboyant and fun-to-watch ladies currently leading the hit parade.

When asked what the most high-maintenance part of her beauty routine is, Nicki Minja responded
“my eyes, because they’re the one thing I need my makeup artist to do. I don’t have the patience, my hands shake, and I mess everything up. So my makeup artist has to do my brows and lids and lashes. Everyone knows I’m a lash girl by now. When I don’t have my lashes, I feel naked.”

Holiday Makeup Trend: Red Lips like Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer

December 21, 2011

Divabetic: Red Lips Like Rudolph

This  season, Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, isn’t the only one glowing from the color red. Beauty experts agree that red lips are one of the biggest trends for makeup this winter – so let them guide you throughout this festive time of year.

Celebrity makeup artist, Dani Guinsberg, says,  “Red lips are great for creating an impact without having to make a real effort with the rest of your make-up. Blood red tones and velvety matte textures are super sophisticated and never fail to add an injection of sultry elegance to your style.”

Wearing the right red shade for your skin tone is really important if you want to look more vampy than vampire.

As a basic rule, celebrity makeup artist, Kirsten Piggott recommends if your skin has yellowy or olive undertones then a fire engine red or brick red will work well with your complexion.

Pale skin with look better with cherry or pinky reds, while darker skin tones will look look stunning with deeper burgundy reds.
