Divabetic Presents ‘Dude’s Day’ on Tuesdays!

September 25, 2012

Divabetic FallDivabetic, the national nonprofit organization inspired by Luther Vandross, which provides education and empowerment to all types of divas at risk, affected by and living with diabetes is proclaiming Tuesdays as ‘Dude’s Day.’ #dudesday

“We’re shining the spotlight on men because we want to help counter the alarming statistics documenting the higher significance of complications in men living diabetes, says Max ‘Mr. Divabetic’ Szadek.

“ Men with diabetes also face special concerns like impotence (not being able to have or keep an erection) which effects the daily lives of our divas. We plan to present a dazzling array of health information, news headlines, fitness, food and pictures of our favorite male celebrities from the sports, entertainment and political arenas in order to provide inspiration to the men in our community.”

According to the 2006 American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists report, The State of Diabetes Complications in America, 7.9% of men with diabetes experienced congestive heart failure compared to 1.4% of those with normal blood sugar. The prevalence of chest pain, heart attack, and coronary heart disease were all 3 to 6% higher in men with diabetes than in men without, and 6.8% of men with diagnosed diabetes suffered stroke compared to 1.5% of men with normal blood sugar levels.

Dude’s  Day breaking news:the superstar party band,  LMFAO is not done party rocking. LMFAO—aka the duo made up of Redfoo and SkyBlu—are going on an indefinite hiatus, SkyBlu has spoken up to set the record straight.

“Well, you know, first of all, we’re not breaking up. I know that for sure. We’re family and stuff, so it’s always love,” he said to MTV news. “It’s interesting because somebody will say one thing [and] it’s just like high school, then all of a sudden [it's] ‘They’re breaking up. They’re fighting.’ It kind of gets blown out of proportion, so we’re definitely not breaking up.”

Skyblu also announced the news on the duo’s official Twitter page, posting “We’re not breaking up baby” with a link to the MTV article.

While they are not splitting up for good, SkyBlu does confirm that they are indeed taking a hiatus from party rocking and will be focusing on separate projects for the time being.

“Well, you know, we’ve been working as LMFAO for so long, and you know we’ve been working on a lot of other projects as well. And so I feel like our creative paths, we need to kind of realize these projects we’ve been working on. And it’ll free up our minds and stuff to be able to take on another LMFAO project because the next one we do it’s got to be that like [an] amazing, amazing crazy album and stuff like that,” he said. “It’s kind of like, let us get our wind up, let us kind of show the world who we are as individuals and then we come together stronger than ever.”

As for any bad blood between the musical bros? Sky shoots down those rumors as well:

“I love Foo with all my heart, that’s my man. Me and him we did this whole thing together. I have him to thank for a lot of stuff that’s going right in my life,” he explains to MTV. “Me and him are always good. That’s my uncle. I love him.”

You see that, folks?

Whether singing together or flying solo, these dudes are still sexy and they know it.

‘Paranormal State’ Star Ryan Buell’s Pancreatic Cancer

August 10, 2012

Divabetic Summer“Paranormal State” star Ryan Buell has announced that he is battling pancreatic cancer, People magazine reported.

The 30-year-old paranormal investigator has been keeping his fans and supporters updated on his goings-on and his condition on his Facebook page. On Monday, one of his “Paranormal State” staff members posted on his Facebook page that he had to be hospitalized because of kidney complications.

“Hey everybody. Last night at the hospital, Ryan underwent a medical procedure and it was successful. He is currently back home resting. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.” Thank you. ~ Cereza, PRS Staff

The Wall Street Journal reported that the incidence rate of new cases of pancreatic cancer has been increasing around one percent each year, according to the American Cancer Society. The cancer is very deadly – the fourth deadliest cancer for men, and the third deadliest for women, according to the National Cancer Institute.

That’s because, unlike many other cancers, catching pancreatic cancer early, doesn’t necessarily improve a patient’s prognosis, the Mayo Clinic reported. Plus, it’s hard to catch early in the first place because symptoms may not arise until it’s too late.

People who are overweight or obese, who have pancreatitis, who have diabetes, who smoke, who are African-American, have a family history of certain medical conditions that could raise cancer risk, or have a family history of pancreatic cancer itself are more likely to develop pancreatic cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are most commonly used to treat the cancer.

Groom’s Weight Wrecks Wedding Day!

July 21, 2012

Divabetic SummerToday’s grooms are feeling the same pressure to slim down and tone up before their big day that their brides have been dealing with for decades.

“The groom is really the new bride,” said the restaurateur Penny Glazier, an owner of the event venues Bridgewaters and Twenty-Four Fifth Avenue, in Manhattan. “And men want to look as good on their wedding day as women do.”

More salons and spas are offering grooming for the groom.

“Men are as vain as women, maybe sometimes they are more so, especially when they’re older,” said Dawn Strain, an event planner, who added that she, too, has been noticing a groom diet trend over the last few years. “In their 20s, they don’t care as much. But in their 30s and 40s they need to lose weight and get in shape.”

An added incentive is that many women embark on Olympic-caliber beauty training before their weddings. Their transformation only solidifies a man’s resolve — if not his ego.

“Every man in New York wants to lose weight,” said David Beahm, an event planner in Manhattan. “But when it comes to standing at the altar next to someone who has spent the last year at bridal boot camp, the pressure’s really on.”

Male weight-loss tactics can be as intense as the female versions.

Philippe van den Bossche, 43, of Manhattan, a former executive director of Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity, paid $1,000 a month to Oz Garcia, a nutritionist, to help him lose 25 pounds between January and April, when he married Cory Cohen in Sri Lanka. For him, it was as much of a wedding present to his soon-to-be wife as it was to himself.

“I wanted her to look back in pride,” said Mr. van den Bossche, who cut his normal portions in half, and now boasts a 28-inch waist. “I just wanted to make that commitment to her and our relationship.”

Anthony Castro, 32, who runs a wholesale meat business in Whitestone, Queens, underwent weight-loss surgery in April for his wedding this September.

“I don’t want to be in front of the altar, in front of everybody, looking this way,” said Mr. Castro, who added that he weighed about 300 pounds when he had the surgery, and hopes to get down to 190 pounds. “Everybody’s supposed to be looking at the bride, but I feel everybody is looking at me, too.”

Grooms are not the only males with pre-wedding vanity. The same applies to fathers of the bride and other members of the wedding party. Former President Bill Clinton, for instance, lost 20 pounds before the wedding of his daughter, Chelsea, in July 2010. “She doesn’t think I’m in shape,” Mr. Clinton said in an interview at the time.

That sort of thinking motivated Raymond Cestaro after he learned that his daughter, Mary, would be marrying next July.

“All of a sudden I thought, she’s my only daughter, we’re going to be having this huge party, and I took a look in the mirror and was like uh-oh,” said Mr. Cestaro, 50, who runs a construction company in Floral Park, N.Y. Never mind that Mr. Cestaro’s doctor had been admonishing him to lose weight for years.

“It took my daughter’s getting engaged to all of a sudden motivate me,” said Mr. Cestaro, who said he had Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. He went to Nicolette Pace, a registered dietitian and nutritionist in Great Neck, N.Y., who helped him lose 60 pounds, halfway to his goal weight of 210.

“Part of what comes from getting married is the enhancement of each other,” he said. “We just get better together. And part of getting better is getting fit and healthy and looking and feeling your best.”

George Clooney’s Summer Vacation Troubles

The Biggest, Baddest Danger At A Barbecue

June 28, 2012

Divabetic BBQFood poisoning cases double over the summer from cooking our meats on a barbecue, such as poultry (chicken or turkey), pork, steak, burgers or sausages,   This is because raw or undercooked meat can contain germs that cause food poisoning, such as salmonella, E.coli and campylobacter. However, these germs can be killed by cooking meat until it is piping hot throughout.

“The safest option is to cook food indoors using your oven,” says a spokesperson from the Food Standards Agency (FSA). “You can then put the cooked food outside on the barbecue for flavour.” This can be an easier option if you’re cooking for a lot of people at the same time.

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic stops by the 10th annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party at Madison Square Park in New York City to find out how everyday people stay on track with their health goals while indulging in summertime fun.

At the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, pitmasters from New York City, Alabama and Texas come together in celebration of American barbeque.

Soda Ban LA-Style

June 23, 2012

Divabetic Soda BanLos Angeles parks and libraries could soon be soda-free.

When Councilman Mitch Englander discovered that his daughter was unable to buy anything but sugar-packed sodas in a city park vending machine, he introduced a motion to ban them.

Englander pitched his proposed soda ban at parks and libraries to the city’s Arts, Parks, Health & Aging Committee, CBS reports.

The council member, who serves as president of the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association, talked about how sugary sodas increase rates of childhood obesity and diabetes. He demonstrated that a 20-ounce soda bottle contains about 22 packets of sugar, Encino Patch reports.

“Here in the city of Los Angeles, one in four children is obese,” Englander said to KTLA. “In many of our communities, it’s one in three.” Sodas can also affect young people mentally, he added, even sometimes increasing violence towards others.

Englander’s proposed ban, which he hopes to have approved sometime this summer, heard immediate opposition from the American Beverage Association, which flew representatives from Washington, D.C. to attend the meeting, ABC reports.

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic is on location in Central Park, New York City to find out people’s reactions to Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed Super Size Soda ban.

Stacey Keach Is Back on Broadway After Suffering Stroke

June 18, 2012

Divabetic Tony AwardsActor  Stacey Keach is back on Broadway after suffering a stroke a few years back.

He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, “I can’t tell you how grateful I am and relieved. I feel deeply blessed.”

Recalling the events which led up to his stroke two years ago, Keach explains he felt “a little tingling” in his right arm during a performance of the play in Cincinnati, Ohio and it returned during the play’s first night in Los Angeles.

Keach says, “I quickly tried to focus and refocus.”

The actor knew he had a big problem when he found himself slurring his speech during a radio interview the following morning: “I realised I wasn’t making sense… I knew something wasn’t happening properly with my motor response.”

A doctor gave him a shot of vitamin B12 and Keach figured his health issues had passed as he appeared in five weekend performances and then hosted a cast get-together at his home in Calabasas, California.

The following morning he awoke with severe pain in his right arm, and his wife called the paramedics, who took him to hospital. After a series of tests he was told he’d suffered a series of minor strokes.

Keach insists the health scare has forced him to take better care of himself – he has vowed to stop smoking

Today, Stacey Keach is back on Broadway having  just completed a run in Other Desert Cities with  Stockard Channing, Rachel GrifithsJudith Light and Justin Kirk.

In Other Desert Cities, Brooke Wyeth, a once promising novelist, returns home after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas in Palm Springs with her parents, former members of the Reagan inner-circle, her brother and her aunt. When Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family’s history, the holiday reunion is thrown into turmoil and the Wyeths are both bound together and torn apart as they struggle to come to terms with their past.
