Country Singer Mindy McCready Dies

Remembering Mindy

A source confirms to ET that country music singer Mindy McCready has died. She was 37 years old.

Her death is allegedly the result of an apparent suicide, according to FOX reporter Stacy McCloud.

McCready had attempted suicide before, having been hospitalized in 2008 after she cut her wrists and took several pills. Her passing follows the shooting death of boyfriend David Wilson on January 13.

Wilson, a record producer, was initially rushed to the hospital after suffering a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound that did not immediately kill him. McCready recalled how she discovered him after the shooting in an interview on NBC’s Today. “I just started screaming, calling 911. I laid down next to him and just pleaded with him not to die.” The singer said Wilson “was responding” after the shooting, but only making sounds, not words. McCready was admitted to an in-patient facility weeks later.

McCready had several successful country albums in the ’90s, but her career was later overshadowed by domestic abuse issues and drug and DUI arrests. She is survived by her two sons: 6-year-old Zander (fathered by ex Billy McKnight) and 9-month-old Zayne (who she had with now-deceased boyfriend David Wilson).

Grammys Go Granny with New Dress Code

February 8, 2013
Grammys Go Granny

Grammys Go Granny

What would Joan Rivers say?

So long ‘Joan Rangers‘ there’s a new style sheriff in town.

CBS Standards and Practices are acting like the FASHION POLICE for celebrities attending Sunday night’s Grammy Awards.

CBS Standards and Practices issued an e-mail that goes into excruciating detail as to what must be covered, including “bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack” and “[b]are sides or under curvature of the breasts.” Appropriate clothing was also outlined, including a ban on “sheer see-through clothing that could  possibly expose female breast nipples.”

Pop Music is now officiallly ‘Prude Music’

Here is the e-mail in full for Lil Kim and her stylist as reprinted on Deadline.com

CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.

Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could  possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.

Why not strip the live performances of all the auto-tuning, backing tracks and special effects that have plagued Beyonce in recent weeks? Now that would mkae sense. #grammys

Grammy Nominations 2013

It looks like the Grammys are going to be a lot of FUN to watch this year.

Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Kanye West top the 2013 Grammy nominations with six each, followed by the Black Keys and Miguel with five nods.

The indie-pop band, FUN., is riding high with nominations for record of the year and song of the year for producing and writing the single “We Are Young,” which they performed with singer Janelle Monae.  The band was also nominated for album of the year for their collection Some Nights, as well as the the prestigious best new artist award.

There was plenty of love for our favorite divas, like Kelly Clarkson, who scored four nominations; Taylor Swift, who received three nominations; and newcomer Carly Rae Jepsen, who earned two nods.

The biggest surprise was that One Direction and Justin Bieber were shut out!

The nominations for Record of The Year are: The Black Keys – “Lonely Boy,” Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger, “Fun. feat. Janelle Monae – “We Are Young”, Gotye feat. Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used to Know,”  Frank Ocean – “Thinkin Bout You, “  Taylor Swift – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

Rihanna Hits The Jackpot At the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

December 4, 2012

RihannaSuperstar Rihanna wows the crowds tonight as she performed on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show special. This year’s show is a unique hybrid blending musical entertainment with the inherent appeal of glamorous lingerie on beautiful women.

“It originally began as a high-end fashion show,” explains Jack Sussman. “And we saw a way we could turn it into a great event for television.”

As a fashion show, it was already eye-catching. What CBS added was popular music, which this year comes from Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars.

“We want the top music stars in the world to go with the top supermodels,” says Sussman. “Put them together and you get a show you can’t see anyplace else.”

“We hit the jackpot,” says Sussman. “These artists are the hottest in America right now.”

He’s particularly excited about the segment with Rihanna.

“We’ve had her on lots of shows over the years,” he says. “I think this is the best performance she’s ever done for television.”

SUPRISE! SURPRISE! Rihanna rocks lingerie and holds her own on the catwalk with some of the world’s top models. Rihanna sang “Fresh Out the Runway” at the end of the corset-and-garter parade and she was the one to grab the audience’s biggest applause.

This year’s models include Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson and more.

And those models even had props, including Adriana Lima’s ringmaster wand, Doutzen Kroes’ body cage and several pairs of the oversized wings that the retailer has made its signature. It would be a close contest who got the biggest wings: Toni Garrn’s giant poppy pair or Miranda Kerr’s swan-style feathered pouf. Only Lily Aldridge could boast star-spangled wings that shot out silver sparkles.

Alessandra Ambrosio’s orchid-petal wings might have lacked a little grandeur, but she made up for it with a $2.5 million jeweled “floral fantasy bra.”

The Awful Truth About Kelly Clarkson

November 27, 2012

Divabetic FallOne of our favorite divas, Kelly Clarkson is fuming about being misquoted several times in the U.K. Mirror.

The singer and first “American Idol” winner covered the “Sunday Celebs” insert of the Mirror, reports Billboard, with a headline reading: “No one on the planet should be as famous as me.”

Clarkson took to Twitter on Monday, telling her followers that she never made such a statement. She also knocked down the magazine’s report that she battled anorexia.

“I have never had anorexia nor did I ever say ‘no one should be as famous as me,’” said Clarkson. “I said in the interview, when asked about fame, that I have no desire to be as famous as Britney [Spears] or Madonna. I said that kind of fame was too much for any person and that I have experienced a portion of what they deal with and that I didn’t handle that well and I’m happy where I’m at in my career. Nice job Mirror.”

Clarkson, who just released her new album “Greatest Hits: Chapter One,” is s celebrating the major milestone of 10 successful years as a recording artist.

Clarkson found immediate success in mainstream pop music following her 2002 win as the best voice in America, setting the bar at a lofty height for hopefuls following in her rise to fame via the popular reality competition series. The singer has scored three solo Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles — including the 2011 mega hit, ‘Stronger’ — and has sold more than 11 million albums with five studio releases since.

Christina Aguilera’s AMA Performance Proves She’s Lost Her X-Factor

November 19, 2012

Divabetic FallChristina Aguilera proved why her career is in a nose dive with her underwhelming performance at the American Music Awards. Next stop, Altantic City?  Christina’s cleavage alone could have stopped the show in the plunging neckline piece but most of us watching were hoping to hear her pipes!!  Unfortunately her performance featuring Pitbull on the track Feel This Moment included an awkward, rocky routine from her dancers who had  the words ‘Freak’ and ‘Queen’ labelled on their heads.

While Christina disappointed many ‘diva’ fans on stage,  Pink left us screaming for more!  For those who thought Pink couldn’t possibly top her 2010 Grammy Awards performance of “Glitter In The Air”–where she performed upside down, suspended in mid-air, and nearly naked–the feisty singer did a good job of taking it to the next level with her amazing performance of the song “Try.”

Pink and her equally talented male counterpart dancer, Colt Prattes, did a remarkable job of re-creating the entire “Try” video, which the star has noted is her “favorite video ever.” The performance–which likely took numerous takes during the making of the video to accomplish–was completed flawlessly on stage. Pink performs a remarkable upside-down balancing act on Prattes’s shoulders, as well as completes a round of intensely athletic “fighting sequence” movements, all without barely smudging her rainbow-colored makeup.  The dance progresses to a climactic moment where the pair throw each other into furniture while flames flicker in the background…only to rise up and, presumably, try again. AWESOME!!

Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj Win Big At the American Music Awards

November 19, 2012

Divabetic FallJustin Bieber dominated the 40th American Music Awards. Bieber’s wins included the show’s top award, artist of the year. His mom joined him onstage as he collected the trophy, beating out Rihanna, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and Drake.

“I wanted to thank you for always believing in me,” Bieber said, looking to his mom.

The 18-year-old also won the honor in 2010. He said it’s “hard growing up with everyone watching me” and asked that people continue to believe in him.

He gave a stripped down, acoustic performance of “As Long As You Love Me,” then transitioned to the dance-heavy “Beauty and a Beat,” where Minaj joined him onstage, grinding with the teen for a few seconds.

Nicki Minaj who wore three different wigs and four outfits throughout the night, repeated her AMAs wins from last year, picking up trophies for favorite rap/hip-hop artist and album for “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.” She was in an all-white get-up, including fur coat and pink hair when she performed her new song “Freedom.” The scene was ghostly and snowy, as a choir – also in white – joined her onstage.

November 14, 2012

Divabetic FallKorean pop star PSY joined Madonna on stage during her second show at Madison Square Garden in New York. The duo danced to his pop culture anthem “Gangnam Style” and to her jam “Music” in front of nearly 20,000.

Madonna said PSY flew “all the way from Frankfurt, Germany this morning.” She also said she was a big fan of the rapper and loved his suit, which was bright red.

He added that he’s had a lot of experiences in the last few months, and that performing at MSG with Madonna topped his list.

Madonna also collected money for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Fans threw money onstage while she performed “Like a Virgin.”  Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.

Taylor Swift’s Patchwork Of Emotions Showcased on Red

October 23, 2012

Divabetic FallTaylor Swift‘s new album Red, was released Monday featuring the single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” which landed her first #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The uptempo breakup track caught her fans’ attention immediately with its undeniable pop sound that had Swift teaming up with hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback.

Yet, Swift promises that when you listen to Red, nothing else on the album will sound like “Never Ever,” and that’s how she wanted it to be.

“This album is interesting because each song stands on its own,” Swift recently told MTV News. “It’s this patchwork quilt of different sounds and different emotions, and I don’t think anything on the record sounds like ‘Never Ever,’ and I’m really happy about that because each song is its own approach to what that particular emotion sounds like, and it’s a really, really different record from anything else I’ve ever done before.”

One of those sounds that had people talking is Swift’s incorporation of dubstep on the infectious track “I Knew You Were Trouble,” also produced by Martin and Shellback. The song, which Swift admits is her favorite on the album, tells the story of falling for someone you knew was wrong to begin with, and Swift knew that bringing a country-flared dubstep into the mix would bring to life the emotion she was trying to convey with this song.

“I brought in this chorus to Max Martin and Shellback and just kind of played it for them, and it was just piano/vocal, and I was like, ‘At the end of the chorus, I want it to just explode,’ and it ended up having a little bit of a flare to it that is reminiscent of dubstep,” Swift said. “It’s very subtle, but I’m really excited because it actually sounds like the intensity of that emotion that I wrote about.”
