Beauty & The Blood Sugar: Neon French Tips

GLAM MORE FEAR LESS: There comes a point in all of our lives when we come to a stark realization: diabetes sometimes isn’t very fun. The realities of day-to-day self-care are challenging, and setbacks common. When something goes wrong, resist the urge to mentally beat up on yourself. “Give yourself permission to be a human being and not a human doing,” says Karl D. La Rowe, a licensed clinical social worker and mental health investigator in Oregon. When you catch yourself mentally berating yourself for some supposed failing, replace your negative thoughts with the phrase “I am doing the best I know how to do. When I know a better way and can do it, I will.”

Take a minute to “GLAM MORE, FEAR LESS!” by treating yourself to a Divabetic beauty boost. One of hottest and cheapest attitude accessories is: cool, eye-catching nails. Fun and crazy nails are all the rage right now. Just hop on Pinterest and you will see hundreds of pictures of nail art inspiration especially on one of Divabetic’s boards.

Here’s a great idea that’ll have your fingers looking oh so chic come next season—or even starting right now: bright and happy neon french tips. I think they are so great. They instantly add a pop to a boring work outfit and can be an easy way to try the trend if you’re not sure you really want to commit.

Traditional french mani’s are the classic go-to for one and all when you want to look polished, right? So why not add a little splash of color to this plain-jane look? Neon is perfect! Neon polish can be fun, but if you want to tone things down at bit, try a neon French tip.

Why Nail Stickers Are So Tempting To Try!

October 25, 2012

Recently, we stopped by the Young Women’s Leadership School of The Bronx (TYWLS) to find out what young girls thought of nail stickers. Although most of the girls think that nail stickers are way too expensive, they’ve all tried them!

We decided to give Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects nails stickers a try. We picked up the leopard print ones because that’s the theme of the TYWLS of the Bronx. For around $10 you get 16 stickers. Most nail polish bottles are $7 and you get many, many manicures out of them!

Don’t worry, if you don’t like leopard there are metallics, lace, and tons more patterns and style to choose from. All the packages have very helpful instructions and includes all the tools needed. The nail file includes a buffer on the other side so you can smooth out your nail. There’s a wooden cuticle stick so you push the sticker around the edges.

The only real drawback is that if you stretch the pattern  to fit your nail better it doesn’t look consistent. The pattern will look bigger on some nails and not others. Okay, we may be splitting hairs but it’s enough to bug us.

Overall, Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects nail stickers are perfect for a fancy, fun manicure but not an everyday thing.

See Mr. Divabetic’s nutrition game, Serve, Taste or Trash!  You must decide which one you’d serve, which one you’d taste and which one you’d trash.

Before you decide to “trash” a veggie for good, why not try to eat it raw? Raw veggies can be more appetizing than their cooked counterparts to people who aren’t crazy about vegetables. The flavors of raw veggies can be milder than those of cooked ones.

3D Nail Art is Hot Fashion Trend for Fall 2012

September 10, 2012

Divabetic Summer3D nail art is the process of creating three-dimensional artwork on the fingernails. Typically, the3D design is created on acrylic, or fake, nails, which are then applied over the wearer’s fingernails. To create the designs, the artist adds colored acrylic to a mold using a paintbrush and waits for it to harden. Once the acrylic dries and hardens, the artist removes the 3D nail artfrom the mold and glues it to the fake fingernails.

Flowers are one of the most common 3D nail art creations. The petals and leaves stick up from the surface of the nail for a dramatic look. Nail art is popular not only for beauty, but for formal occasions such as a wedding. Non-acrylic 3D nail art options include gemstones and other materials small enough to glue onto the nails.

When designing nail art, the artist starts with a colored background on the nail itself. This can be as simple as a clear coating for shine or a colorful coating with glitter for extra sparkle. The nailart is added on top using a small amount of clear adhesive. Often, the 3D nail art is colorful and can be painted over with a clear or glitter top-coat of nail polish.
