GLAM MORE FEAR LESS: There comes a point in all of our lives when we come to a stark realization: diabetes sometimes isn’t very fun. The realities of day-to-day self-care are challenging, and setbacks common. When something goes wrong, resist the urge to mentally beat up on yourself. “Give yourself permission to be a human being and not a human doing,” says Karl D. La Rowe, a licensed clinical social worker and mental health investigator in Oregon. When you catch yourself mentally berating yourself for some supposed failing, replace your negative thoughts with the phrase “I am doing the best I know how to do. When I know a better way and can do it, I will.”
Take a minute to “GLAM MORE, FEAR LESS!” by treating yourself to a Divabetic beauty boost. One of hottest and cheapest attitude accessories is: cool, eye-catching nails. Fun and crazy nails are all the rage right now. Just hop on Pinterest and you will see hundreds of pictures of nail art inspiration especially on one of Divabetic’s boards.
Here’s a great idea that’ll have your fingers looking oh so chic come next season—or even starting right now: bright and happy neon french tips. I think they are so great. They instantly add a pop to a boring work outfit and can be an easy way to try the trend if you’re not sure you really want to commit.
Traditional french mani’s are the classic go-to for one and all when you want to look polished, right? So why not add a little splash of color to this plain-jane look? Neon is perfect! Neon polish can be fun, but if you want to tone things down at bit, try a neon French tip.

Pack your plate with foods containing vitamin E (in sunflower seeds and almonds) to help keep skin hydrated. Breakfast is a great time to incorporate sunflower seeds into your diet. Simply add a few tablespoons to granola or hot cereal, or spread sunflower seed butter, a delicate, sweet alternative to peanut butter, on toast.
For lunch and dinner, sunflower seeds make an easy, natural addition to a salad.

Just five days after the blockbusting triumph of dressing Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence for the red carpet, the house of Christian Dior scored an arthouse hit at Paris fashion week.
Lawrence’s showstopping Hollywood gown scored maximum points for the Dior brand for a mass audience. In Paris, designer Raf Simons‘ latest collection for Christian Dior focused on the shoes, which featured a very cool indented/reverse/half heel. Despite being relatively low, they actually look quite difficult to walk in for the models.

In a year that is being described as one of the worst years for Oscars fashion, pastel shades, natural makeup and minimal jewelry triumphed.
Move over, Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayek and Fan Bingbing because Mr. Divabetic’s Worst Dressed Award at the 2013 Oscars goes to the loveable Melissa McCarthy. Her custom David Meister Signature gown and its overabundance of army barracks gray-colored silk jersey was awful. The unflattering jersey material, draped in all the wrong places and awkward jeweled embellishments aren’t working in her favor. And her Dynasty overly-teased hair (does she have an endorsement with Aqua Net?) isn’t helping matters.
Helena Bonham Carterlooks as if she just escaped from an attic and is playing dress-up with Miss Havisham’s discards. She keeps that bad fashion mojo going with this Vivienne Westwood frock.
Nicole Kidman looks like she’s filming a one-woman sequel to Moulin Rouge in her Balenciaga gown. Lately, she’s had a multitude of misses on the red carpet.

The fabulous, Ginger Vieira, author of Emotional Eating with Diabetes, recently posted this story about the happy healthcare host (me!) on Diabetes Daily.”If you don’t know Mr. Divabetic (Max Szadek) he is an diabetes advocate, podcast & video host, and all around supporter of living life to the fullest with diabetes! This past week, he hit up New York’s Annual Fashion Week and spoke with Miss Dee who is well-known for her couture on the runway!
My favorite thing about Mr. Divabetic is that he makes diabetes wild, colorful, and fun while taking the responsibilities of the disease very seriously! (Like…eating more vegetables!)
Recently, Mr. Divabetic started a new game called “Serve? Taste? or Trash?”in which he offers three vegetable ingredients and let’s his contestants choose which one they would make a meal with, which one they would taste if they’d never really had it before or if they thought they’d enjoy it, and which one they would throw away!”
(If you didn’t know that I’m on a quest to glamorize good health – now you know!!)

Are you feeling down? Do you feel like you’re the ‘only girl in the world’ living with diabetes today?
Research shows that women with diabetes are at greater risk for depression than people without diabetes. There are no easy answers about why this is true.
The stress of daily diabetes management can build. You may feel alone or set apart from your friends and family because of all this extra work and/or restrictions.
If you face diabetes complications such as nerve damage, or if you are having trouble keeping your blood sugar levels where you’d like, you may feel like you’re losing control of your diabetes. Even tension between you and your spouse, co-workers and doctors may make you feel frustrated and sad.
If you are depressed and have no energy, chances are you will find such tasks as regular blood sugar testing too much. If you feel so anxious that you can’t think straight, it will be hard to keep up with a good diet. You may not feel like eating at all. Of course, this will affect your blood sugar levels.
Believe it or not, I have found that a little makeup can really help lift spirits in women living with diabetes aka ‘divas.’ For the past eight years, Divabetic has been presenting ‘makeover your diabetes’ outreach events across the country to thousands of women. At these events women enjoy free beauty/fashion services as well as friendly diabetes education. Our goal is to make you feel beautiful inside and out. It’s common to see women who have walked in tired or slumped over leave our free outreach events feeling renewed and rejuvenated. (Visit http://www.divabetic.org for diva-style outreach event details.)
Let Rihanna and Divabetic help inspire YOU to “GLAM MORE FEAR LESS.” Take a minute to boost your confidence in managing your diabetes by enhancing your beauty. It’s easy. Treat yourself to a massage, wear perfume and/or put on some lipstick before you ‘face’ the world. Choose to sparkle like a diamond today.
Feeling down once in a while is normal. But some people feel a sadness that just won’t go away. Life seems hopeless. Feeling this way most of the day for two weeks or more is a sign of serious depression. If this is a case please seek help from a healthcare professional.
Yesterday after presenting one of the most fabulous diabetes outreach events ever! (“Love On A Two Way Street’ at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA) I went to see the ‘Come See About Me: The Mary Wilson Supremes Collection’exhibit at the African American Museum.
I was dying to check out this “DIV” exhibit since it inspired me to incorporate the music of the Supremes as well as the Temptations during my presentation. I wanted to take a light-hearted approach to illustrating how differently men and women view ‘sex’ and ‘love.’ For example, the Supremes sang songs like ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ while the Temptations chose to harmonize on tunes like ‘Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.’ It’s pretty funny when you think about it.
Divabetic
The brainchild of Wilson, Come See About Me features a collection of over 30 of the group’s stunning gowns, rarely seen video footage, gold records and album covers, historic photographs, and so much more.
I must admit the gowns were diva-licious!!
“We went overboard in the glamour department,” laughed Mary Wilson. “We embodied all the best of dressing up. We dressed up like royalty.” The gowns, which are the highlight of the exhibit, were key to The Supremes’ iconic image, synonymous with glamour, success, and sophistication. It was a style that called out to young fashionistas and aspiring designers, flaunting decoration without gaudiness.
“The exhibit brings to mind three little black girls who dared to dream,” stated Mary Wilson glowing with pride. The exhibit features the 30-pound gowns they wore the night they performed for the Royal Family, now called the “Queen Mother” gowns. Soft pink, with beads circling the high neckline to the shoulders, and jewels woven into the silhouetted frame from top to bottom, no photo can do them justice. To say the exhibit is about a girl group is a gross oversimplification. The Supremes have been woven into the history of 1960’s culture — with gilt thread and rhinestones.
In addition to the fabulous fashions, Come See About Me chronicles Wilson’s own story of self-actualization and determination – two universal themes that resonate with audiences from any generation, right?

“Baby, you’re a Firework .. Come on, let your colors burst,” sings Katy Perry but it seems like Carrie Underwood‘s carrying the tune judging from her dress at the Grammys.
When she hit the stage for her big performance, however, her dress was anything but. The “American Idol” alum walked on stage in a giant silver ball gown by THEIA that resembled an oversized prom dress. Within minutes, the iceberg of a garment lit up: The four and a half foot-wide skirt was acting as a projector screen, with flickering colors and designs projected onto it from beyond the stage.
As one Twitter commenter noted, there was a giant Power Point presentation taking place on Carrie’s dress. The whole thing was just asking to be made into a GIF.
See photos of the light show below. Do you think the light-up concept was cool or silly?
