Mike Tyson & Spike Lee Head To Broadway

June 19, 2012

Divabetic Tony AwardsMike Tyson, the former boxing champion, has announced he will team with director Spike Lee to bring his one-man show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth,” to Broadway in July.

The show, a confessional on the highs and lows of the life of the retired heavyweight and tabloid target, will mark Tyson’s and Lee’s debut on Broadway. “Tyson” debuted in earlier this year in Las Vegas.

“I’m very vulnerable and I’m just telling you who I am and where I’m from and how this happened,” Tyson said at a news conference at the Longacre, wearing white pants, a white shirt and a gray jacket.

Tyson, like Lee a Brooklyn native, became the youngest-ever heavyweight champion in 1986, when he won his title as a 20-year-old. His life since then has been marred by accusations of domestic violence, rape, drug use, and the death of his young daughter.

“It takes courage to get in the ring,” said Lee, who urges theatergoers to have an open mind when it comes to the work. “But it takes courage to get on the stage.”

Tyson said he was inspired to do a one-man show after watching Chazz Palminteri tell stories about growing up in his show “A Bronx Tale.” The boxer said: “I’m really just excited about this genre here.” #broadway

Stacey Keach Is Back on Broadway After Suffering Stroke

June 18, 2012

Divabetic Tony AwardsActor  Stacey Keach is back on Broadway after suffering a stroke a few years back.

He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, “I can’t tell you how grateful I am and relieved. I feel deeply blessed.”

Recalling the events which led up to his stroke two years ago, Keach explains he felt “a little tingling” in his right arm during a performance of the play in Cincinnati, Ohio and it returned during the play’s first night in Los Angeles.

Keach says, “I quickly tried to focus and refocus.”

The actor knew he had a big problem when he found himself slurring his speech during a radio interview the following morning: “I realised I wasn’t making sense… I knew something wasn’t happening properly with my motor response.”

A doctor gave him a shot of vitamin B12 and Keach figured his health issues had passed as he appeared in five weekend performances and then hosted a cast get-together at his home in Calabasas, California.

The following morning he awoke with severe pain in his right arm, and his wife called the paramedics, who took him to hospital. After a series of tests he was told he’d suffered a series of minor strokes.

Keach insists the health scare has forced him to take better care of himself – he has vowed to stop smoking

Today, Stacey Keach is back on Broadway having  just completed a run in Other Desert Cities with  Stockard Channing, Rachel GrifithsJudith Light and Justin Kirk.

In Other Desert Cities, Brooke Wyeth, a once promising novelist, returns home after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas in Palm Springs with her parents, former members of the Reagan inner-circle, her brother and her aunt. When Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family’s history, the holiday reunion is thrown into turmoil and the Wyeths are both bound together and torn apart as they struggle to come to terms with their past.

Sheryl Crow Sizzles in The Summer’s Hottest Look at Tonys

June 16, 2012

Divabetic at Tony AwardsSheryl Crow looked stunning on the carpet at the Tony Awards wearing Jennifer Fisher Black Diamond Chain Link Bracelet, Cognac Diamond Cougar Ring and Large Black Diamond Hoops.

Sheryl’s fabulous gown also showcases the hottest trend in fashion and  jewelry for 2012: BLUE. Turquoise tones, navy, aqua, azure, in general blue are definitely  the color of the year. For the divas out there thinking that blue is not their color, you can bet you can find a great blue hue that is just perfect for your skin tone, so you might as well grab a few pieces. The trick is to always have few pieces that are in season but always opt for variety when in comes to color and jewelry.

Producers said that the Oscar winner will play the role of Shelly Levene in a revival the marks the 30th anniversary of David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the backbiting world of salesmen.

Stockard Channing Would Love to Be on Smash

June 14, 2012

Divabetic at Tony AwardsSmash‘s second season is still but a glimmer in NBC’s eye: The show won’t be back until spring, and when it returns, there maybe a new guest star or two.

Michael Cristofer, who plays Anjelica Huston‘s estranged husband Jerry on the show, told Vulture he’s pulling for a Stockard Channing guest arc. “We’re all at a certain age now where we end up being someone’s mother or father, but maybe she could be this mammoth lesbian producer person, or an agent, or a manager,” he suggested. And Channing?

She says, ”I would love to do [Smash].Would Channing be willing to dig in her back catalogue and sing something from Grease? “Luckily, that’s not something I don’t know how to do,” she said. “Sure, I’ll do that.”

3 Questions That Joan Rivers Won’t Ask on The Red Carpet

June 13, 2012

Divabetic Red CarpetJoan Rivers  invented the red carpet for E! Entertainment and TV Guide Network. She’s seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst on the red carpet. Joan Rivers has rendered the final judgment on Oscar red carpet fashions for over 15 years.

But there are a few questions Joan Rivers won’t ask including ‘what’s on their plate?’

Joan Rivers inspired me to turn the red carpet into the red “tomato” carpet and talk to people about ‘what they’re eating’ instead of ‘what they’re wearing’ to raise diabetes awareness in a fun new way

Join me, the happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic as I roll out the red carpet at the 66th Annual Tony® Awards at the Beacon Theater in New York to talk about divas, dazzle and diabetes.
