The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic stopped by the Bike Expo New York (BE NY) to play his food game, Serve, Taste or Trash! In the game, you’re given three choices of popular drinks. You must decide which one you’d serve, which one you’d taste and which one you’d trash. The goal of the game is to challenge people’s Nutrition IQ about some of their favorite drink choices.
Bike Expo New York hosted more than 90 exhibitors representing the best brands and organizations in biking, including Raleigh, Specialized, Fuji, Cannondale, Shimano, and People for Bikes. Local brands were also represented with companies such as Vespertine, Rolling Orange, Montecci and many more.
What do you reach for to quench your thirst when you go for a bike ride? Most of us feel challenged to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water each day to stay healthy which is probably why there are so many beverages that mention “water” in their title. Just mentioning water in advertising makes us think of we’re drinking ‘water’ but are these beverages really worth it?
One of the choices featured in the Bike Expo’s Serve, Taste or Trash! Game is Vitamin Water Zero. Vitamin Water Zero contains erythritol, which is a a special type of carbohydrate called a sugar alcohol. Sugar alcohols typically only contain about two calories per gram of carbohydrate, but erythritol contains only 0.24 calories per gram, and labeling regulations in the US say that this can count as zero calories.
As far as the vitamin supplementation that one can get through these products – you should eat a variety of vegetables, some fruit, and a variety of protein sources to get all the vitamin C, B-vitamins, etc that your body needs to function.
