Diabetes Linked To Chronic Yeast Infections

Diva TalkRadio: Diabetes & Yeast Infections

What many women don’t know, is that recurrent and unresolved vaginal yeast infections can be a complication of diabetes. The diabetes and yeast infections connection is often overlooked.

A yeast infection, also known as candidiasis, is caused by an overgrowth of Candida Albicans. Almost three-quarters of all women will suffer at least one such infection in their lifetime.

Often times, symptoms of a yeast infection can go untreated because women are too embarrassed or self-conscious to talk about it. Although many women experience yeast infections, women with type 2 diabetes have them more often. Some women, especially those with poorly managed diabetes, have difficulty fighting off any infection. This means that once a yeast infection has begun, getting rid of it may not be that easy.  Treatment of a yeast infection is the same for people with, or without, diabetes.
