Angel Food Cake Poses No Threat for Leggy Angelina Jolie

May 10, 2012

#divavsdessertIn the age old battle of the bulge it seems like Angelina Jolie has a leg up on the rest of us at fighting off temptation.  What’s her secret to kicking Angel Food Cake to the curb?

The forever slender Angelina Jolie is reported to breakfast on a tablespoon of coconut oil and a protein shake or a handful of cereals for energy. That explains the healthy glow, coconut oil is rich vitamins and calories.

Although naturally slim with no appetite for weight Jolie has a serious workout routine she developed while preparing for her role in Tomb Raider.  She started kickboxing workouts, bungee ballet, scuba diving and weapons training, including sword fighting and spear throwing. She also learned to row, dive and even play soccer.

Martial arts training provides an excellent full body workout. Much of Angelina’s training involved working on a heavy punch bag to build kicking strength in her hips and thighs, as well as upper body strength and endurance. A one hour kick boxing session can burn up to 800 calories for someone of Angelina’s frame.

Angelina’s thigh proves she’s got nothing to hide with her ability to avoid a sweet temptation. #divavsdessert

Domino’s Offers New Gluten-Free Pizza Crust

May 10, 2012

Domino’s, the world’s largest delivery pizza chain, announced plans to sell a pizza made with a gluten-free crust.

“We are the first national pizza delivery chain to offer this,” boasts Domino’s CMO Russell Weiner, who notes that while the crust is certified gluten-free, the pizza is still prepared in ovens with pizzas that aren’t gluten-free, so folks who are extra-sensitive need to be aware. The gluten-free pizza costs about $3 more.

Until recently, gluten-free was mostly listed on the back of the package, but now, with 6% to 8% of the U.S.population on some some kind of gluten-free diet, it’s increasingly listed on the front, and even called out in bold type. “It’s become a selling point,” says Alice Bast, president at the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, a group that raises awareness of Celiac disease and gluten intolerance.

Bast says, “The number one request we get from the gluten-free consumer is for gluten-free pizza — and beer.”

Beer lovers will rejoice to hear that Anheusher-Busch will soon roll out Michelob Ultra Light Cider, which is gluten-free.

The Secret to Beautiful Blood Sugars

May 10, 2012

#beautifulbloodsugarsKeeping you’re cool while managing a random blood sugar low is all about attitude. With some styling finesse you can cutdown on the stress if you think like a diva!

Our beautiful blood sugar secret starts with the Rule of 15:  If  your blood sugar gets too low, eat 15 grams   of a carbohydrate-rich food (3 – 4 glucose tablets), wait 15 minutes, and test your blood sugar again. If it is still below 70, take another 15 grams of carbohydrates, wait another 15 minutes, and retest.

Its important not to overdo treatment because this could start a cycle of blood sugar levels rising and crashing. ‘Just waiting’ can be excruciating so fill the time before rechecking with a ‘glam more, fear less’ type distraction: A BLOW OUT.

Grab your hair dryer, some styling gel and a picture of your favorite celebrity for inspiration to learn to become the master of your own blow out.

You want to either air- or towel-dry your hair slightly before applying styling products — otherwise they’ll slip right off.

Divide and clip your hair into 3 sections — top, middle and nape. If you wear bangs, leave them loose.

Grab a great hair dryer. readers strongly recommend  CHI TURBO CERAMIC IONIC HAIR DRYER, $134.95. “It cuts the normal drying time in half and your hair is so shiny and healthy looking after that you don’t really even need a flat iron!” one reader says.

Dry your bangs into place first to set them so they aren’t harder to tame at the end. Then put the nozzle on your dryer and, beginning with the nape section, wrap a 2- to 4-inch section of hair around the brush and pull as taut as you can. Ensure that your dryer nozzle is pointing down the hair shaft from roots to ends.

When each section is completely dry, use the “cool shot” to finish it.

When all of your hair is dry, finish with a misting of shine spray or rub a pea-sized drop of shine serum in your palms and distribute evenly from mid-shaft to ends — staying clear of roots.

The good news is you can sit in a chair while blow drying to make it easier on the arms. But if you’re feeling too drained to indulge yourself in a home beauty treatment  ask your sister, best friend or mom to become your at-home beauty consultant.

A little mirror time can go a long way to helping you stay on top of your self-care. Make sure and talk to your health care team if you are at risk for hypoglycemia and follow their advice for treatment, which will be tailored to your own situation.#beautifulbloodsugars

A Mother’s Secret to The Fountain of Youth

May 10, 2012

#motherurdiabetesIn honor of Mother’s Day and National Water Week,  here’s some motherly advice for improving your health.

Water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. Here’s why: The kidneys can’t function properly without enough water.

On the average, a person should drink eight 8-ounce glasses every day.  Sometimes drinking our eight glasses of water a day can be a real challenge Here a few simple ways to help you accomplish that feat!

Enjoy a glass of water at every transitional point of the day: when you first get up, just before leaving the house, when you sit down to work, etc.  Make it easy – keep a big, insulated water bottle full on your desk and reach for it all day.  Dilute your juice (apple, grape, or orange) fill half the glass with water.

Beauty experts agree that drinking your water is the cheapest, quickest way to look better! #motherurdiabetes

May 10, 2012

Britney Spears signed a $15 million contract this week to join Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid on “The X Factor” judges panel for Season 2.

“It’s all completed and Britney is beyond excited … She is excited about showing the world that she can do this, and do this well. This is the perfect next stage in her career. Both Britney and Simon are very excited to work together.”

Fergie shut down rumors that she was judging “The X Factor” in Season 2 as did Janet Jackson.

Fox has yet to confirm any news about Spears, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato or LeAnn Rimes, nor has the network named a new host — or hosts — that will be taking the stage in Season 2 after Steve Jones was dropped along with Abdul and Scherzinger.

Fox is expected to announce the final details of “The X Factor” Season 2 by the time the network announces its fall schedule on Monday at the annual upfronts presentation.
