Bonnie Sher: Broadway, Blood Sugars and the Brat Pack!

April 13, 2013

2CFEAB97A-AC7A-697B-9EF7ACDEBC356E76Bonnie Sher sings, dances, lights up the stage and is living with type 1 diabetes. She’s a truly a ‘DIVA-betic.’  She will grace the stage at Stage 72 at Triad on Sunday, April 14, 2013 peforming her new show,  MOMENTS.

On stage Bonnie celebrates over four decades of a career which spans TV, film, stage & recording. Her band is pretty magical, too, with Musical Director Mario Sprouse on piano, Marshal Rosenberg on percussion & Grammy Award-winner, Wayne Cobham on trumpet.

Bonnie was diagnosed with diabetes at age at 16 and started working with the late Sammy Davis, Jr. when she was 17. Bonnie had the good fortune to be the protégé of the late Sammy Davis, Jr., which provided her with the incredible opportunity of working clubs & engagements around the world for over twenty years, until his death.

Bonnie Sher is no stranger to the stage, starting her career as a child touring in The Sound of Music with Theodore Bikel & Florence Henderson. The old Cotton Club was the venue for High Tea, an acclaimed Off-Broadway musical in which she starred opposite of legendary Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer, LaVern Baker. Bonnie made her television debut as a teen on “The Barbara McNair Show” & continued to work on several TV shows including a role opposite Billy Crystal on “Soap,” while training with comedy legend Phil Foster.

In addition to her work as a singer, actress & recording artist, Bonnie has always found time to work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a spokesperson & has served on the Board of Directors of Calvary Hospital Golf & Tennis Classic Benefit for their cancer hospice. She was also the Program Director for Hearts & Voices, a volunteer organization that provided musical entertainment for AIDS patients in seven New York City Hospitals.

On Sunday, April 14th at 3pm, Bonnie Sher will grace the stage at Stage 72 at Triad, sharing her magical voice. MOMENTS is Bonnie’s celebration of four decades in TV, film, stage & recording. Her band is pretty magical, too, with Musical Director Mario Sprouse on piano, Ratzo Harris on bass, Marshal Rosenberg on percussion & Grammy Award-winner, Wayne Cobham on trumpet.

Bonnie Sher Is An Entertainer To Watch!

April 11, 2013

2CFEAB97A-AC7A-697B-9EF7ACDEBC356E76Bonnie Sher sings, dances, lights up the stage and holds the room in her hands. And why not, she learned from the master himself – the late Sammy Davis, Jr. For many years, Bonnie had the good fortune to be the protégé of the late Sammy Davis, Jr., which provided her with the incredible opportunity of working clubs & engagements around the world for over twenty years, until his death.

Bonnie Sher is no stranger to the stage, starting her career as a child touring in The Sound of Music with Theodore Bikel & Florence Henderson. Bonnie made her television debut as a teen on “The Barbara McNair Show” & continued to work on several TV shows including a role opposite Billy Crystal on “Soap,” while training with comedy legend Phil Foster.

Bonnie began her recording career under the wings of songwriting pair, the Late Jack Keller (“Venus in Blue Jeans,” “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool”) & the Late Bob Russell (“Crazy He Calls Me,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”) who wrote two songs for her, “Façade” & “It’ll Break Your Heart.” Both songs were recorded & featured in motion pictures . She also starred in Arch Oboler’s recently re-released 3-D cult film, Domo Arigato.

Carrie Underwood Lights Up the Grammy Awards Stage

February 12, 2013
Divabetic - Carrie Underwood

Divabetic – Carrie Underwood

“Baby, you’re a Firework .. Come on, let your colors burst,” sings Katy Perry but it seems like Carrie Underwood‘s carrying the tune judging from her dress at the Grammys.

When Carrie Underwood walked the 2013 Grammys red carpet, many thought her Roberto Cavalli gown to be “understated and elegant.”

When she hit the stage for her big performance, however, her dress was anything but. The “American Idol” alum walked on stage in a giant silver ball gown by THEIA that resembled an oversized prom dress. Within minutes, the iceberg of a garment lit up: The four and a half foot-wide skirt was acting as a projector screen, with flickering colors and designs projected onto it from beyond the stage.

As one Twitter commenter noted, there was a giant Power Point presentation taking place on Carrie’s dress. The whole thing was just asking to be made into a GIF.

See photos of the light show below. Do you think the light-up concept was cool or silly?

Christina Aguilera’s AMA Performance Proves She’s Lost Her X-Factor

November 19, 2012

Divabetic FallChristina Aguilera proved why her career is in a nose dive with her underwhelming performance at the American Music Awards. Next stop, Altantic City?  Christina’s cleavage alone could have stopped the show in the plunging neckline piece but most of us watching were hoping to hear her pipes!!  Unfortunately her performance featuring Pitbull on the track Feel This Moment included an awkward, rocky routine from her dancers who had  the words ‘Freak’ and ‘Queen’ labelled on their heads.

While Christina disappointed many ‘diva’ fans on stage,  Pink left us screaming for more!  For those who thought Pink couldn’t possibly top her 2010 Grammy Awards performance of “Glitter In The Air”–where she performed upside down, suspended in mid-air, and nearly naked–the feisty singer did a good job of taking it to the next level with her amazing performance of the song “Try.”

Pink and her equally talented male counterpart dancer, Colt Prattes, did a remarkable job of re-creating the entire “Try” video, which the star has noted is her “favorite video ever.” The performance–which likely took numerous takes during the making of the video to accomplish–was completed flawlessly on stage. Pink performs a remarkable upside-down balancing act on Prattes’s shoulders, as well as completes a round of intensely athletic “fighting sequence” movements, all without barely smudging her rainbow-colored makeup.  The dance progresses to a climactic moment where the pair throw each other into furniture while flames flicker in the background…only to rise up and, presumably, try again. AWESOME!!

The Spice Girls Are Back!

August 12, 2012

Divabetic SummerMove over  Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps,  The Spice Girls are back.

The group performed at the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, running through a medley of hits that included “Wannabe” (natch) and “Spice Up Your Life.”

They arrived on the big stage in five separate black cabs, or hackney carriages.

A number of news reports had placed the group as the final act of the widely anticipated event, which had been billed as a grand celebration of British pop music. They were not the finale of the show, however, as Muse, Queen and a host of other acts followed their fun performance. The Who ended the evening with a strong set.

London’s boy band of the moment, One Direction, also performed, charming their way through “What Makes You Beautiful.” Russell Brand sang “I Am The Walrus,” Fatboy Slim DJ’d and John Lennon appeared in a video exclusively remastered by Yoko Ono. Lennon’s performance of “Imagine” was an inspired moment and a true highlight of the evening.
