The End Of Eating Everything is Worth Seeing

After we saw the absolutely fabulous The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, we checked out another amazing exhibit, Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey.

Wangechi Mutu is an artist and sculptor who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Mutu is considered by many to be one of the most important contemporary African artists of recent years, and her work has achieved much global acclaim.

The exhibition unites more than fifty pieces, including Mutu’s signature large-scale collages as well as video works and never-before-seen sketchbook drawings.

Mutu is best known for spectacular and provocative collages depicting female figures—part human, animal, plant, and machine—in fantastical landscapes that are simultaneously unnerving and alluring, defying easy categorization and identification.

Her collages are comprised of magazine cutouts from international politics, the fashion industry, pornography, and science fiction.  Heer work explores gender, race, war, colonialism, global consumption, and the exoticization of the black female body.

One of the most alluring works featured is ‘The End of Eating Everything” by artist Wangechi Mutu. The End Of Eating Everything is the artist’s first animated video and we love it! Created in collaboration with recording artist Santigold and co-released on MOCAtv.

The 8-minute video stars Santigold as a mysterious protagonist who is part human, part cyborg, part flying island, and her own ecosystem. The creature encounters a flock of birds and gulps them voraciously, invoking ideas of consumption. The video features an original soundscape by Mutu, a haunting score of weather, animal and machine sounds.

“The End of Eating Everything” was commissioned by the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University as part of the new exhibition “Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey.” Watch, listen, appreciate, discover.

Ryan Gossling Won’t Eat His Cereal

Ryan Gosling may be taking a break from acting, but he’s still the star of the internet.

The hunky 32-year-old featured in a series of eight Vine postings dubbed “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal,” in which creator Ryan McHenry edits together clips of Gosling in his movies with a hovering spoonful of breakfast.

Thanks to McHenry’s artful collage work, Gosling appears to refuse the cereal every time. In one installment, he wrinkles his lip. In another, he appears to smack the spoon clean out of the bearer’s hand.

McHenry, whose short film “Zombie Musical” won a BAFTA New Talent award, was inspired to create the videos while watching “Drive” and eating cereal, he told Entertainment Weekly.

The series follows in the footsteps of other Gosling-centric internet sensations like blogs Feminist Ryan Gosling and F-k Yeah! Ryan Gosling.

Though the actor hasn’t commented on this particular viral video series, he shared some of his favorite fan artwork with MTV back in 2010.

“They’re hilarious,” Gosling said. “Here’s one of me looking at some ducks, and I’m in some kind of ‘Star Trek’ jacket,” he said. “I don’t know why I have that. And it says, ‘Hey Girl, I’m just sitting on the dock of the bay, wishing I could waste the rest of the day with you instead of these ducks.'”

“They’ve nailed it,” he laughed. “I’m going to make a movie about ‘Hey Girl.'”

Wednesday’s World Premiere Video: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

December 12, 2012

2012_Finish_Line_at_Worcestesr_Making_StridesThe happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic salutes breast cancer survivors living with diabetes by rolling out the red tomato carpet at the 2012 American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Central Park, NY.

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk unites communities to celebrate people who have battled breast cancer, educate people about ways to reduce their risk, and brings us all one step closer to a cure and new treatments. Since 1993, nearly 7 million walkers have raised more than $400 million to help fight breast cancer by participating in non-competitive, 3- to 5-mile events.

Mr. Divabetic plays his nutrition game, Serve, Taste or Trash! with New Yorkers in Central Park to hilarious results. In the game, you’re given three choices of fruits and vegetables. You must decide which one you’d serve, which one you’d taste and which one you’d trash.

Before you decide to “trash” a veggie for good, why not try to eat it raw? Raw veggies can be more appetizing than their cooked counterparts to people who aren’t crazy about vegetables. The flavors of raw veggies can be milder than those of cooked ones. And the texture is crispy, rather than mushy. Let Mr. Divabetic inspire you to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Wednesday’s World Premiere Video: Serve, Taste or Trash!

August 15, 2012

Chances are there are fruits and vegetables you love now that you hated as a kid. But how much fresh produce do you still avoid just because you think you don’t like them?

Most of us struggled with mustard greens, turnips and asparagus, and instead prefer less intense flavors. But as adults we still cling to our preferences without ever stopping to question the meaning of our dislikes.

The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic wants to help you overcome aversions to fruits and vegetables you think you don’t like, and even learn to love them with his new food game, Serve, Taste or Trash.  Here’s how you play: Mr. Divabetic lists 3 fruits and vegetables. Among the 3, you have to say which one you’d serve, which one you’d you taste and which one you’d trash. For this game the choices are: melon, red pepper and eggplant.
