January’s Diabetes Numerology Game puzzle is inspired by ‘Braveheart’ starring Mel Gibson teach people that stress causes your blood sugars to rise.
When we’re under stress, like you might experience while fighting on the battlefield, our body puts out a lot of extra adrenaline into our bloodstream.
Adrenaline is a hormone that’s responsible for the “fight or flight” response that occurs under conditions of excitement or imminent danger. Adrenaline tells your liver to raise your blood sugar. It breaks down glycogen, especially in the liver, to make more glucose in the blood.
When you’re frightened or injured you experience rapid heartbeat and get shaky — that’s all the adrenaline fighting into the bloodstream.
January’s Diabetes Numerology Game puzzle is inspired by the film, Braveheart to help people learn more about adrenaline and blood sugars in a fun, new way.
Braveheart, the 1995 historical drama war film directed by and starring Mel Gibson. Gibson, portrays William Wallace, a 13th-century Scottish warrior who led the Scots in the First War of Scottish Independence against King Edward I of England.
Many people with diabetes have higher than normal blood sugars whenever they have a very stressful event in their life, their sugar will go higher, and sometimes it takes a little time to figure that out, but there very, very clearly is a strong connection between those two things.
If managing your blood sugars seems insurmountable we can help you to be brave.
