We’re talking about Intimacy Issues and Food Fears, especially of eating carbohydrates, on this episode of Divabetic’s podcast with musical inspiration from H.E.R. courtesy of SONY Music.
H.E.R. chooses to keep her true identity a secret, and H.E.R. is an acronym for “Having Everything Revealed”). She has received an Academy Award, a Children’s and Family Emmy Award, five Grammy Awards, and nominations for a Golden Globe Award, three American Music Awards, and four Billboard Music Awards.
Every day, people with diabetes) are bombarded with messages to limit, restrict, avoid, and feel guilty for eating carbohydrates. It’s no wonder that many people confess to being afraid of eating carbs. But your fears can undermine your ability to manage your self-care.
Frequent podcast guest Megrette FletcherM.Ed., R.D., CDCES offers advice and guidance for people who may feel afraid to eat carbs. She suggests to start becoming aware of when you think about carbohydrates as “good and bad.”
“If you notice you’re trying to be “good” by making “good choices,” that’s a red flag you may be stuck in a restrictive mindset,” she says. “The idea of being “good” often starts as an intention to make more informed choices, but when the reason you’re trying to “be good” is based on fear, something shifts. Fear can trigger guilt, blame, and shame, common triggers for overeating and bingeing. Click HERE for more advice from Megrette Fletcher.
Podcast guests include Dr. Janis Roszler LMFT, RD, LD/N, CDE, FAND (co-author of Divabetic’s ebook Sweet Romance: A Woman’s Guide to Love and Intimacy with Diabetes), Cheryl Farley, “Food as Medicine” Nutritionist, Dr. Dugan Maddux, and the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach.
“I think your Barbie & Ken podcast is absolutely incredible. It’s so informative on many levels and areas that most of us think about. After listening, I feel knowledgeable and empowered!”
After you listen, we hope you agree with this listener that In Bed with Barbie And Ken podcast is one of our best.
Inspiration struck for producing this podcast while watching the funny scene between Barbie and Ken, confused about what to do at an adult sleepover in the movie trailer on TV. Their confusion sparked an idea to spotlight love, sex, and diabetes on a Divabetic podcast.
After all, if Barbie and Ken are confused about what to do at sleepovers, you might be too, especially if you’re dealing with sexual health issues related to diabetes. You or your partner’s lack of desire, personal dryness, painful intercourse, lack of sensation, and erectile dysfunction could make a life without genitalia, like Barbie and Ken, seem like a happier and easier way of life.
Thankfully, the co-authors of Divabetic’s soon-to-be-released Kindle e-book, Sweet Romance: A Woman’s Guide to Love and Intimacy with Diabetes, Dr. Janis Roszler PhD, LMFT, RDN, LD/N, CDCES, FAND, and Donna Rice, MBA, BSN, RN, CDCES, FADCES, willingly agreed to play along and join me on the podcast.
“I’m thrilled to participate in Diabetes Podcast Week again this year, ” says Max ‘Mr. Divabetic’ Szadek.”We’ve got a really wonderful show planned featuring guests Chef Ward Alper ‘The Decadent Diabetic’ and Diabetes Advocate and ‘Rich In Love‘ blogger Doris Hobbs along with music from George Michael.”
The idea behind the ‘Spare a Rose, Save a Child’ is simple: buy one less rose this Valentine’s Day and donate the value of that flower to children with diabetes. Donations go to Life for a Child, an International Diabetes Federation program which provides life-saving diabetes supplies, medication, and education that children in developing countries need to stay alive.
Mr. Divabetic will be happily broadcasting live on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, 6- 7 PM, EST. with the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach, Poet Lorraine Brooks and Mama Rose Marie.
We’re throwing our first-ever Divabetic Valentine’s Day Party! We’re sharing expert advice on foods to nourish your heart, fashions to boost your spirit and fabulous diabetes self-care tips to make your life easier. Whether you’re married, single and/or dating, our goal is to encourage you to show how much you care about yourself and your diabetes health.
Throughout February’s Diabetes Late Nite podcast we will be featuring music by George Michael courtesy of SONY Music.
Diabetes Podcast week founder and fellow podcaster, Stacey Simms says, “I’ve participated in and enjoyed Diabetes Blog Week for a long time. After I started my podcast, it seemed like a natural fit to create #DPodcastWeek. Once again, we’re using our microphones to get some attention for a terrific charity, the Spare a Rose, Save a Child campaign.”
During the week of February 6, 2017, listeners are encouraged to learn more and to consider making a donation.
When you read the labels on foods in your supermarket, it’s no surprise that you find plenty of sugar in products like cake mix, ice cream, jelly, cookies, and soda pop. But it’s alarming to see 12 grams of sugar in bottled pasta sauce!
So how much exactly is a gram of sugar? One teaspoon of granulated sugar equals 4 grams of sugar. To put it another way, 16 grams of sugar in a product is equal to about 4 teaspoons of granulated sugar.
Some types of bottled spaghetti sauce have double or triple the grams of sugar as other types. Here are a few of the products that I have almost as much sugar as a Pop-Tart.
Newman’s Own Tomato & Basil: 1/2 cup = 12 grams sugar, 90 calories

Former Top Chef contestant and Chef Sam Talbot’s new book, THE SWEET LIFE: Diabetes Without Boundaries focuses on how diabetes has affected but not compromised Sam’s life or career, and includes his own tips on how to handle everything from work and hobbies to relationships and travel with discipline and enthusiasm. THE SWEET LIFE features 75 innovative recipes for fresh, all-natural dishes anybody, with or without diabetes, can prepare and enjoy.
Best of all, every one of Sam’s recipes is a dish home cooks will be proud to serve to family or guests; as he astutely points out, anyone concerned with his health would do well to eat like a diabetic, and when the food is this alluring, there is no reason not to.
“One great perk about being a chef (and getting some media attention from my stint on Top Chef) is being able to bring attention to causes I believe in, which is why I’ve teamed up with JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), an organization that provides resources for diabetes and is working for better ways to create and ultimately cure type 1 diabetes,” says Sam Talbot. A portion of the proceeds from the book will go to benefit JDRF’s Sweet Life Kitchen.
